I went to a wedding where the bride and groom each had 17 bridesmaids and groomsmen. I normally don't care what one does with their own wedding, but it was obnoxious.

Word of advice:
Keep your groomsmen close and the Groom of the Royal Stool EXTRA close.

I could see it for two huge families, but that seems a bit much ;lol:

Immediately family members seems like the easiest option.

This. fricking brides have to include everyone for one reason or another as not to piss people off. Then the groom has to scramble to fill spots he had no intention of offering.

Here's my first tip for marriage. Let your future wife tell you how many Groomsmen you have.

Bonus tip my father in law gave me: You can be right or you can be happy. Choose happy.

Most of those brides must have been miserable. Who cares what the guys walking people to their seats are wearing.

I've stood in more than 10 weddings, but only had 3 groomsmen in mine. Everyone not standing was happy, they got to save the suit money and spend it on travel or other wedding stuff. If you have an awesome bachelor party no one will care about standing in the wedding. Just be a man and tell everyone individually and well ahead of time.

Does this board ever get tired of bashing women? As far as I know, the wives didn't even make that decision. My wife didn't tell me anything about what me or my people were wearing at our wedding.

How butthurt did they get?
I was pretty butthurt when my only sibling, my sister, didn't ask me to be a groomsmen in her wedding. Her reasoning was that it was her fiance's decision to pick his own groomsmen and that she didn't have any say so. None of my family was represented as a groomsmen but 1/2 of her bridesmaids were from his side

I didn't ask my wife's brother to stand in mine either. He got to usher in her mom and grandma though.

That's what we did. Tiny wedding, big party. Everyone had a blast.

I think currently accepted protocol is to be 1/2 that number. We know how women love to be the odd one out in these circumstances. I think it is crap to cater to everyone like this but I don't make the rules.

That's fricked up. I walked in my BIL's wedding, and will be a groomsman in my SIL's wedding. That would be a very odd situation in my family.
