It's just asinine to build obstacles in a road.

The point was to build the sidewalks, make it ADA accessible and to improve foot traffic. This encourages new businesses to open which removes the blight. It works if you have an alternate route like North street, which they have.

You are just upset because your routine is being altered. Use a different route, its not that hard.

No, a four lane road with no turn lane is asinine. And there wasn't enough room to expand the road to four lanes plus a turn lane after the fact. In the alternative, having a two lane road with a designated turn lane improves traffic because it reduces the rate of "unexpected" events. I can't tell you how many times I saw people act like idiots trying to swing around vehicles trying to make an unprotected left from the "fast" lane of traffic.

People are confusing road construction with improving the vehicular traffic. Most people that utilize the road diet correctly like it and the opposite for people that travel it occasionally.

There is no reason to use Government street as a thru street. Only use it if you live off of it or are visiting a business on it.

I would agree if it wasn’t an exit off the interstate

for those who live in the area and use it constantly, the government street project is wonderful. for those who hope to get off the interstate but still drive 65 to downtown, not so much. the purpose was traffic calming. it worked. Florida is still wide and fast, and north blvd. flows freely.

the message has always been clear, if you're looking for speed, go elsewhere. if you're looking to shop, eat and drink in a great atmosphere, and be able to walk and bike to those places, you came to the right spot. when the road is completed and the restaurants/bars/shops recover from covid, it will be a very attractive destination.

people went insane when discussions started about making capital heights a one-way street. that single change returned the area to a vital bustling neighborhood. Government st. improvements will achieve similar results for a larger area.

The only interstate exit to government street is from I110, which is at about the 900 block of govt., and is there to get you downtown. Traffic calming measures don't start until around the 2400 block. if you're looking to go farther east, take acadian, college, essen, etc. there are far better ways to get from downtown to points east than government.

Since they started this, there have been plenty of new places investing in the area, like the Beer Garden, Elsie's, a new family-owned book store, etc. Etc.

Also, I drive it to go to some of these places and it's no worse than before.

What it boils down to Is people in Baton Rouge love to complain and most can't drive a lick.

Your joking right? Maybe it will work in the future, but you are taking your life in your hands right now. I have friends that live around Goodwood and stuff gets stolen all the time.

They should do the same to North Blvd.

Whoa buddy. It’s a damn road. Y’all sure do get your panties in a wad over differences of opinion.

People who think road diets are a good idea are the same people who think having gay trannies read stories to kids at libraries is a good idea.

I don’t care one way or the other about this road. I travel it less now than I used to and the driving on the road itself is more dangerous in my opinion.

Business had already picked up on government before this construction. Business in the area is steady to downward trending. Give it a little more time and the crime will end up putting more businesses out of business. You don’t build a mansion in the ghetto and expect the ghetto to become mansions.

Crossing Government is very easy, though.

I don't know what times of day you are crossing Government, but it's been my experience between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM (the times that I'm in that area) that it's just about impossible to come off of one of the side streets and make a left turn onto Government due to the constant congestion. I don't even attempt it anymore. Crossing it is just as bad.

And yes, Acadian needs to be finished. Crossing Acadian you have to go at a crawl or you will knock your wheels out of alignment on the bumps.
