Chief of police? Why wouldn’t we just continue to use the sheriffs office like we been doing?

Because its now a city. EBPSO is responsible for the unincorporated areas of the parish. This is the part where everyone's taxes go up for a redundancy of services.

I also find it appropriate that the first mayor comes from the same fire department that the city was named after.

The EBRPSO will still continue to serve the city of St George.

Just as they do with Central.

Hopefully, it will be offset a bit by reallocating the tax dollars St. George residents were paying to help fund BRPD while not receiving those services.

What are the towns/cities in Louisiana with a Chief of Police, and NO actual police force?

I don't know anything about him other than what his bio in the advocate stated. One huge red flag in the bio is that he's a Jesuit guy.

My comments weren't directed at him or his qualifications. Just poking fun at fact that the soon to be 5th largest city in the state is named after a fire department because that is the one thing that this "community" made up of a conglomerate neighborhoods has in common.

Did you just wake up and start reacting to things. This has been clearly laid out in almost every press conference by the StG organizers. Chief of police is required by law as a liaison for the sheriff and the city. The sheriff will continue to patrol the area of St. George as they do all other cities in the parish if necessary. BR has a police department so they rarely are needed there.

St. G could use surplus funding to expand or supplement the Sheriff's role - could.

We will use the years of revenue owed us by Baton Rouge to build the Great Wall of St George to keep the Baton Rougeans out

Central, for one, though they have voted to expand. New Iberia and, recently, Donaldsonville. It is a nationwide cost-cutting trend. It eliminates redundancies.

Alternatively, rebuilding the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant on College could serve as a magnet. Granted, it is currently replaced by a boiled seafood restaurant…

Put a pelican in one corner and we now have a city flag.

The neighborhoods have many common interests.

Folks want a good neighborhood school system.
Folks don’t want an unkept, trashy area to live in.
Folks don’t like sending their tax dollars to the parish and not getting the services we are paying for.

He’s a stand up guy. Not sure how he’ll handle the political arena, as it’ll likely be a shite show. But he’s as solid as they come. Despite being a Jesuit guy.
