I was looking for a used zero turn lawn mower. Family member sends me the number to one from an ex coworker (who was the wife of the person selling it). Says they are good people.
I text the guy and he gives me the details on it. Explains all the things he changed (new blades, new battery, etc). Says the machine won't start because the carbeurator needs to be cleaned, but he has never changed one before.
So I send someone out that knows way more about lawn mowers than me to pick it up if all is well. Everything the guy says about what he had done to it checks out. So I purchased the lawn mower.
Get it to a guy to clean out the carbeurator, and they tell me that the carbeurator is perfectly clean, but the motor on the lawn mower is shot. They told me that the lawn mower is pretty much not worth shite.
I get in touch with the person who sold it to me, and he basically says that it sucks, but I knew the lawn mower didn't start. Then stops responding to anything.
(I'll work on posting pics of exactly what he told me).
frick that piece of shite.

Sounds like multiple people, including your family member, screwed you over here

A fool and his money...

so you bought a mower that didn't work and then were made when it didn't work?

Have you tried taking a ghetto submarine trip to the ocean floor about it?

was your lawnmower expert buddy not partially at fault here? Wouldn't checking out the carbeurator be one of the first things he'd have checked?

You screwed yourself

Only $100 to get cleaned was a red flag

Moral of the story:
If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
I guess it's possible the guy knew that the motor was shot and made up the bit about the carburetor. It's also possible that he thought it was the carburetor and sold it to you in good faith.
Either way, you screwed this deal up my man. For $800 why not say you are going to get it checked out before you pay?

I believe in instances like this, your local Sonic actually has jurisdiction.

You gotta make the guy start the lawnmower before you buy it
