WTF kind of neighborhood do you live in? Compliance inspector for a HOA? That's just mind blowing to my country arse.

I get the point of an HOA but there is no way I could deal with that type of crap

my wife and I are looking into getting into the housing market soon. Her mom likes interjecting her opinion when it's not asked for and this is one of the things shes hinted at wanting us to look for. I laughed and told my wife if she wants to pay for the house note/fees than she can choose what we do.

I get HOA's serve a purpose but I'd lose my shite the first time I got served for something like OP.

Anyone see this neighborhood in Baton Rouge called Carriage Wood? Their Facebook page is hilarious. Bunch of Karens complaining about the smallest things. It’s wonderful entertainment.

My last HOA sent me a letter for a covenant violation. Grass was growing in the tree wells.

Unfortunately... they got the address wrong. I wore them out over it. So many other violations were occurring at the time with daycares being run, sheds built, trailers parked in the streets.

We sold the house in July and are building in a neighborhood with only 30 lots. The developer, whom I am friends, is the HO A. I feel like that shite won't occur in our new home.

HOAs are the worst!

Hubba, sounds like to me if you keep your trash can on your property in public view... that's an HOA violation... but if you keep it on the curb at all times... HOA can't say anything to you.

I love it.

They can, and I almost hope they do. I used the words, "court", harassing" and "non-jurisdictional" to make sure that they understand they better have something valid when addressing this kind of petty crap with me in the future.

OPs situation seems petty and I like his reaction. That being said I can’t wait to move to a neighborhood with an HOA because right now I have some trashy mother frickers on our street and property standards doesn’t do anything

100% this, we bought into a relatively new-ish subdivision and later found out the developer failed to file paperwork finalizing an HOA. We didn't know this at first but knowing now, we probably would have kept looking.

What this has resulted in is houses that just lack any pride of ownership, crappy kept lawns and visible trashcans are nothing. We've got assholes with a project Mustang in the front yard, another house that's rented that has 2-4 cars parked in the front yard at all times. I don't care about your trashcan being out too long, what color you want to paint your garage door, but for fricks sake atleast maintain your home like you're proud to live there.

Downvote me if you must but I'd gladly take a bitchy HOA over the houses near me that look like shite and drive down property values.

Where and what size lots and what size homes? I want to build somewhere where I can have a 5 bay garage attached, where I can build it with a deep profile and a high ceiling so that I can have a lift in it to get up under and work on my cars.

My lot shares a common drive on the back of the property that services five houses. There is a Servitude put in place that governs the drive, ownership, upkeep, etc. We all own the property but the crazy cat lady at the end has always said it's "her" driveway and consistently gives us shite about everything to include if the landscaping on your section is to her liking or not.

I have a wall between my property and the drive with gate access. She once complained that my gates swing outward and cross "her" property for the ten seconds they are open when I am entering or leaving.

A couple of summers ago, I was out of town for a month and my yard guy didn't come. This bitch had a lawyer write me a threatening letter about upkeep of the common area.

It pissed me off so I had my attorney pull the original Servitude. I had never actually seen the complete document. Well it turns out the people who originally drafted the thing all agreed that the anchor house owner would provide all landscaping and grounds maintenance. The other parties are only responsible to share in the cost of maintenance for the driveway itself.

I let the other homeowners know and we happily served her with legal notice that she was now responsible to pay for all grounds maintenance. Saved me $20 a week and stuck her with the bill. Her attorney had some egg on his face since he had never read the actual servitude either and was just going off what his client told him.

Broussard, La. All the lots are 1+ acres. Ours is 1.33. I suppose that is big enough to do what you want.

So arguably, you could make a demand on the HOA that they take reasonable steps to prevent common area debris from littering your lot. i.e. maintenance sweeping street to gather leaves before they place an undue burden and liability on you. JS
