Anybody in an engineering field, if their experience was the same as mine, will tell you that they adamantly wished there was more females in their classes.
Despite all the advertising, scholarships, and encouragement in the world, girls just did not want to go into engineering. Those that did were in a small minority.
At a certain point it becomes reasonable to speculate that maybe on average, women don't want to be engineers.
FWIW one of my coworkers is a female engineer from India and she is a good worker; so obviously this is an "on average" type deal.

His right or wrong doesn't matter, he openly bashed the company employing him... that's not how you keep your job. He will be scooped up with a quickness.

he wasn't fired for writing about biological differences. He was fired for assuming everyone's gender.

Google's lifeblood is their human capital. Uber is bleeding top employees in part because their culture was not in line with the ideals of many of their target employees. Intentionally or not, right or wrong, this employee kicked a hornets nest and became a threat to the bottom line so he had to go.

Take a look at any graph showing women majoring in CSC on when the decline began.
There was a severe social stigma associated with kids growing up in the 80s with learning to program or become an engineer.
Today with the internet and use of modern computing in everyday life those numbers should rebound but its not really rebounding.

Lets see in my graduating class at LSU I had 5 or 6 girls in the class. (I'm only talking about the Civil Engineering class I graduated with) Of which the entire class had about 25 total people (so roughly 20 guys). Of the girls I graduated with and have somewhat kept in contact with both of the girls have taken time off of work to when they had kids, and I'm pretty sure one of them still hasn't gone back to work. Care to take a guess how many of the guys have taken serious time off of work?
Also, my sister just recently quit her job, which she is a civil engineer as well, because she didn't like her job and would rather stay at home with her new born.
In the engineering world experience is a big determining factor when it comes to your value to a firm/company. When you are more valuable to a firm/company that is when you get paid more.
