Damore’s so-called “manifesto,” which went viral internally at Google this past weekend, was first reported by Motherboard, leading to Gizmodo’s publishing of the full text of the document. From there, intense debate ensued surrounding Damore’s viewpoints and the extent to which they undermined Google’s and other tech companies’ continued efforts to increase the representation of women in tech.

The crux of Damore’s argument was that biological differences between men and women are the cause of the gender gap at Google and the broader tech industry. He also said that efforts to remedy the gap are drowning out “ideological diversity” and creating a culture that discriminates against conservative viewpoints.

He's actually spot on. I hope he goes somewhere else and takes some of Google's business

They have basically confirmed his crowding out message by firing him.

I read his entire post and he used the words "on average" as qualifiers throughout it. It isn't like he was saying only one sex can work in tech.

This whole diversity and inclusion thing is mind boggling in 2017. When a hiring manager has to pass on a young white male because they have too many of them something is way fricking wrong. Hire the best person that applies for the job and that's it.

For Google to say he was "perpetuating gender stereotypes" is the height of absurdity.

When I was in college I never had more than 1 girl in any of my CSC classes. It was the worst thing about my major. I never had more than 2 black guys in any either.

This culture by Google and the like to force diversity and their mindset is why I have never chosen to work for these west coast companies. If you don't fit into their liberal mold you will be outcast.

That is one west coast mentality in play.

Another is that a lot of shops out there tend to be overwhelmingly Asian and Indian, to the point where recruiters are admitting to me that I would be a severe minority there.

I ended one call when the girl trying to recruit me acted horrified to learn that I enjoyed fishing in my spare time. Just sad.

Anyone that has ever been in a non 1st year CSC class knows this to be true.

You show up for class at one point look around the class and spot one or two girls... And they are good looking!

Then the instructor or prof walks in and writes the class on the board and they realize they are in the wrong room....

But there is 1 cool chick you consider a friend who has a different hair color for each day of the week.

Maybe it's gotten better in the last 16 years but I doubt it has changed that much.

Women stopped coding primarily in the 80s with the advent of the personal computer.

Nowadays, it's almost like coding is anathema to them. I don't know what happened, but this never used to be the case.

What it means is he automatically becomes over qualified and they pick someone to fill a quota.
