How the hell do they know this?

If they know how many operations it takes to solve the problem and know the speed of the supercomputer it's fairly simple math

How the hell they created a problem that large would be my question

How much power does this require?

Quantum computing + AGI + cold fusion = our extinction.

My first thought was this would render bitcoin mining obsolete and they would exhaust the unmined supply in minutes

No, the difficulty would adjust every 2016 blocks, like it always does. It would theoretically get to where it would averages 10 minutes a block... or just crash the entire system due to how complex the block difficulty gets.

So what computation did it solve? And how do they know how long it would’ve taken another computer.

Who came up with the challenge and how do they know the answer if it took a supercomputer forever to answer it?

nice

I’ve actually got to program some quantum computers before. Only 8 qbits, but damn it was hard to wrap your mind around how to code it.

Also, bitcoin is safe everyone. Shor and Grover algorithms (to crack crypto) require thousands or millions of qbits, this new google system is only at 105

Has it solved Fermat’s Theorem? If not then it isn’t all that and a bag of microchips.

10 septillion years, or longer than the age of the universe.

What a stupid way to phrase that. A septillion is orders of magnitude larger than billions, which is what the universe is purported to be I think. A billion has nine zeroes behind it. A septillion has fricking 24. So yeah, just a tad bit longer.

Nothing. Math isn't real.

It's racist also.

They are just taking credit that someone reversed engineered from a captured UFO.

Kinda of kidding but they say that's were fiber-optic and Velcro came from.
