Not sure what is more pathetic….
The fact that your wife has you so whipped that you’re getting a golden doodle. Or the fact that you’re dumping your purse out on the internet asking for advice on finding a golden doodle.

Don't get any damn dog that has poodle in it. You're a man ffs. Tell your wife that you're not going to take care of and feed some food foo arse frenchie breed.

I'd rather not have a dog if I had to have a poodle mix.

Are they a separate breed now or do you still have to mix the 2 breeds to get one?

If you are mixing, is there any difference between the 2 versions where the daddy is poodle or the daddy is golden? Horses and donkeys crosses are 2 different things.

Idk. A standard poodle is a cool dog. The littles? Nah.

I can’t believe all the ugly comments. A doodle may not be your choice, but still. OP, there are tons of doodles in Louisiana rescues. Probably pups, too.

I just know my singer got hers from one of the top breeders in the country and they said if there was elbow issues, she would be refunded the purchase of the dog and the dog did get elbow issues. I still remember carrying that dog up the stairs for months afterwards.

Anyway, golden doodles personalities can vary but emotionally needy is something I see in them somewhat often

Mixing poodle and other dogs can be a bit of a crap shoot. The good ones are great the bad ones are a huge pain in the arse. My parents have had standard poodles my entire life, great dogs, smart but a lot of Energy and smart enough to cause trouble, we’ve had ones that can open doors, turn faucets on to drink etc.

I had one I got from what I’d assume was a trailer park breeder in MS met them
At a gas station in kentwood and gave them a couple hundred bucks. she lived 17 years, healthy as an ox, was brilliant, sweetest dog you’d ever meet, i could let out of my place uptown on Magazine just open the door she would run out and do her thing and come right back wouldn’t leave our yard. I have another family Member who spent thousands getting a standard poodle from a super well known champion show dog breeder, he’s a basket case, health probs, behavior problems, aggressive toward kids and other dogs all kinds of issues.

I’ve got a half newfy half poodle that’s an incredible dog, his older brother was even better but died from cancer at 5. I fostered a half sheepdog half poodle, he was the worst of both breeds, high strung, tried to herd everyone, tried to kill my kids pet rabbit, ate his own shite, he was a mess. Sweet as can be, but a total pain in the arse.

I’ve always wanted a purebred golden, love them, always said I wouldn’t because of the hair, now I have a purebred newfy in my house. Amazing dog, messy as shite. Hair and slobber everywhere. Burns up at least one Dyson a year.

There is no breed standard, they are constantly mixing back and forth, heck even first gen crosses are highly desirable. It's a designer crossbreed. No major entity recognizes it as a breed.

Technically all modern dogs are mutts

They were mutts, but a ton of years breeding to meet a standard made them recognized breeds. Goldendoodles don't have that and the goal doesn't seem to be to set a standard with this hybrid, they seem to want to keep crossing.

Nine times out of ten, when I walk my pure bred dog, on a leash, in my neighborhood, the mutts that come charging at us from nowhere, barking like demons are these trendy Frankendogs known as Golden Doodles.

The owners invariably come chasing after them apologizing saying "I don't know what got into him, he's normally so sweet."

Well I don't know if it's bad dogs, or bad owners, or a combination of both.
One things for sure. These yuppie dogs are ugly as hell.

I personally don't care where anyone gets a dog as long as they treat the dog well. The last two dogs I have had are mutts/rescues and they both are 1 and 1A in terms of the best dogs I have every owned. I also own one of those magnets that says "Who Saved Who" not because I want credit for rescuing a dog, but my two rescues got me some very rough times during and after Stage IV Tonsil Cancer treatment. There were times where if not for them being with me; I probably would not be here today. My rescue is truly my best friend. She is glued to my side and I as sit here typing this rocking out to some classic rock on a headphone system; she is laying on my feet. TLDR: Treat a dog well no matter if it is pure bred and 10K or a rescue you paid $100 for.

One of my kids has a now 10 year-old male (fixed) labradoodle.

As far as a young adult’s dog around young kids, I can’t imagine a better pet.

He’s been absolutely wonderful. Perfect.

The goldendoodles I’ve been around casually seem to be on a par with this labradoodle.

Poodles are great dogs. Don’t blame them for the dumb shite rich women did in creating toy freaks out of them. The “traditional” poodle cut? That grew out of a working cut because poodles were bred to be water dogs in France, where the water is frigid, so they would shave them to maintain buoyancy while keeping hair where they needed warmth: joints, chest, head.

As for OP: first generation golden doodles are an utter genetic crapshoot. Unless you know a lot about them, they aren’t worth the risk. Mini golden doodles (take a goldendoodle and breed more miniature poodle in) are more consistent. But with that said, most of the traits people look for in goldendoodles can be found in poodles. I rehomed a friend’s mini golden doodle and had him dna tested. Came back 100% mini poodle (he obviously has some genetics they didn’t look at markers for, but still). Best boy in the world. Looks like this:

If a shelter had a black lab with champion bloodlines and excellent temperament that fits my family perfectly, I’d have gone and got one. The problem is all the shelters around me have nothing but pitt this and Pitt that.

Easier said than done. A lot of shelters are like 95%+ pit bulls & cane corso mix
