I have done it before on work trips.

I have done it countless times for lunch. Sometime you need to leave the office and “check out” for a bit

I love doing this on work trips but the goal is to talk to no one. It’s amazing.

Reading TigerDroppings while on a work trip at a bar solo and having drinks/ eating dinner is a great pastime.

I bet they wouldn’t think of going to a movie alone either.

Its crazy how many people I talk to are scared to do this,

Sounds great to me.

Here are some benefits:
(1) No judgements on how many carbs are in the mashed potatoes
(2) No judgement on how much to tip the waiter/waitress
(3) No reminder that there's piece of something on you mustache
(4) No reminder that you haven't placed that paper napkin in your lap
(5) No splitting or sharing a plate with her

We just had this thread, but I'll repeat...if you can't be alone for a single dinner by yourself and enjoy it, you have mental issues of some sort.

Well, I didn’t see a similar thread last week and obviously the topic interests me bc I’m 2 pages in and commenting; glad somebody brought it back around.

To the OT - eating out alone is great until some random thinks it’s sad you’re dining alone and attempts conversation. Ugh

Don't sit at the bar.

for God's sake go out to eat by yourself. Sit at a bar . Try to talk to someone

I’m married with 3 small kids. You see me at the bar, please don’t talk to me. I’m enjoying the silence.

I think it shows confidence. Or that you’re a loser. One of the two.

This!

And I’m all for taking that risk.

In my best Neil Young…

It doesnt mean that much to me to mean that much to you…

Liberating! And more I think about it, probably more loser than I care to admit. And cool w/it.

Bars are the best place to go by yourself. Go to a bar.. If its filled, grab a two seat table. Especially if there is a game you would like to watch that you know isn't going to have a big crowd there watching, but enough people where its not going to distract from the game.. If you can find people to talk to in that setting then you have no social skills whatsoever.

feels weird dining out alone

But going to the movies on my own is something I don’t worry about at all. My wife basically wont watch any action or violent movies so if there’s something I want to see I will go to the theater on my own. Its dark anyway so I don’t have to worry about anyone seeing me and thinking I’m weird
