Wow.
So apparently part of the reason for the limited live video from onboard cams vs SpaceX launches is that SpaceX can use Starlink to maintain high bandwidth comms in low earth orbit.
(It’s easier to do it from a ground station from further away)

Always wondered why environmentalists haven’t been yelling louder about SRBs being used again.
That smoke is toxic as frick.

If that heat shield disintegrates on the return, it’s Columbia 2.0 all over again

Nah. The debris field would be smaller/nonexistent.

Thanks, that makes sense
Start to wrap your head around the concept that you're never just flying in a straight line somewhere in space. Your always in an orbit. Either your speeding up because you're flying toward the object your orbiting or your slowing down because you're flying away. Sometimes those speed changes are extremely slow or very fast
They blast themselves into an orbit around the earth
Then they make some burns to round up that orbit
Then they use a burn to extend that orbit at just the right time to surround the moon
Then later they can do a burn to shrink that orbit to just be around tge moon, or they can let it pull them back toward the Earth.
At some point they will do a burn to slow them down enough that their orbit at some point is inside the earth's atmosphere. That's when they are going to be pulled in to land.
In space, you're always dancing with the planets, or moon, or the sun in a circle.

Current status:
First orbit burn completed.
Orbit periapsis/apoapsis is 185 km/2,222km
In a little over a half hour, another burn will occur to convert the periapsis to an apoapsis at over 70,000 km.
They will then settle down, test some systems. Get some sleep, test some manual controls tomorrow, then do the TLI burn that’ll take it out of earth orbit.

Did anyone else notice the body language between Reid and Koch looked a bit off? One of the first pictures after the leak test was him putting his arm behind her, the other two didn't and then they didn't in the following pictures.
Not saying theres much to it but if there is... Imagine being the founders of the 200,000 mile high club.

I had that done one time. Hurt like the dickens! My elbow does feel better, though.

Just had some people leave the house. We had a watch party by the pool. The rocket launch was great AND one of "our" 2 sandhill crane eggs hatched while everyone was here. Mom and Dad were both at the nest, so we knew something was up.
All in all it felt like a productive evening.

Sounds like there might be an issue with toilet on the Orion.
