major depressive disorders, including bipolar occasionally, run in my family. people throw out "bipolar" and forget one of the poles entirely
i was also a psychology minor in undergrad and actually paid attention and read in abnormal psychology (Which covered these)
the information listed in the OP may fulfill the requirements for a depressive episode, but that's about it. and it's just one, and if this is the first time it's ever happened, then that's pretty normal for a person in that age group. hell it may just be a quarter life crisis
if a person hasn't gone through a month of depression by 21-22, then i wonder what is wrong with them more than the other way around

So denies being depressed, she's hormonal, shies away from drinking, clings to you, wants to go home where her family is, and has an increased sex drive?
You should probably swing by a CVS and have a very blunt conversation with her....
and btw, welcome to parenthood.

Congrats on completing the Abby Normal. Sometimes knowledge is a curse though. It can make a simple grocery store trip a major project, avoiding those that clearly exhibit signs....
I bet OP's GF shrieks with laughter at stuff on TV and in movies that he only finds mildly amusing.
OP, does she pee the bed, love fire, and play too roughly with animals? If so, run yesterday.

As an LSU professor, I see this kind of thing all of the time, and many students are helped by talking with someone with a professional background in counseling. I would encourage you to be as diplomatic and gentle as you can be and encourage her to seek some counseling from the Student Health Center. Getting that kind of help does not make her "crazy." I have had several students over the years who were struggling with depression or other kinds of issues and who have been helped tremendously by meeting with someone from the Student Health Center.

The only half sane women I've ever known are the ones who readily admit that they're at least a little crazy.
The ones who deny it are the ones to worry about.

I dont get it because we used to go party all the time and I/her friends still invite her to but she just doesnt have any of it and just wants me to stay at home with her. I told her that she needed to find a reason to get up everymorning and she said she cant. So last night in bed I told her there are counselers on campus if she feels the need to go talk to one and her response was "I'm not crazy....I want you to leave". So I went home. What do I do?
Not sure why you had to disclose that you were "in bed", but whatever gets you off. Anyways, maybe try something else BESIDES partying? Have you tried that? Sounds like you've done next to nothing to help her, and its lazy as shite for you to just push her off on a counselor.
Your emotional IQ seems fairly low FWIW.

You're too young to be dealing with shite like this. Dump her and go out with some other women.
Yep, if she's doing this in her early 20s, you're going to be in a world of shite if you decide to marry this chick. Unless you can truly get to the bottom of it, like say a friend or family member's death that she'll likely adjust to, then it's time to call it quits.

Take her to a strip club. Works well for most people.

Sounds like the guy she was banging decided against having a relationship with her and she's tore up about being rejected.

I think that this advice is overstated. Life is hard and some people are more sensitive to that fact than others. If anything, perhaps the girl needs a guy who will be a little bit more understanding -- someone who won't tuck tail and run at the first sign of trouble.
After all, marriage is at least 75% dealing with the other person's insanity.

My point is get down to the bottom of what it is, and if you can't, leave. Early 20s you've got plenty of time to find someone else.

They're in their early 20s. You sound like a pussy to be honest. Go put some other woman on a pedestal somewhere and leave the op alone.

Bipolar sex is the best. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Given the things you mention, she has a lot of major issues going on in her life. A lot of people handle uncomfortable feelings by avoiding. She also may be feeling needy since you mention her lack of friends and family
Your SO can be the one person you want to be around when you're going through a hard time. And sex can help momentarily relieve neediness
Not sure how you should proceed but this is my interpretation of her behavior
And she doesn't sound bipolar to me from the information you've given us

Skinner, a few have nailed the issue here dead in. Listen to them. Your GF is almost assuredly bipolar. She is displaying all the classic signs.
