What kind of shite is this? Didn't even have the courtesy to call you or give you any feedback?
I did a car wash of phone, on-site local, and corporate HQ interviews for a job earlier this year. All told it was multiple days of my time and prep. Responses from the interviews was favorable. I was one of two candidates.
Then I got a form email from HR that I wasn’t selected and “best of luck in your future endeavors.”

Hopefully, something better will come along. And hopefully, the goon that they hired instead of you turns out to be a trainwreck.

It feels pretty bad.
One time I was searching for a job and it had been a few months. I actually got called by a company who found my resume online.
They called me, and I didn't have my phone near so she left a VM saying that she found my resume online and wanted to know if I was still looking and if not do I know anyone with a similar resume who is looking.
I called her back and she asked if I could come in for an interview.. But they needed to hire someone ASAP. And said that the interview was just formality and will be contacted right after the interview. Went in and the interview went well.. So I thought. Two days later, after not hearing anything, I emailed the recruiter.
No response. About a week later I emailed her again telling her that she informed me she would contact me right after the interview and that it was just formality and it was just over a week and I haven't heard anything.
At that point I was more pissed than anything, but about a week later she emails me to tell me she had been on vacation and she hates to inform me that they decided to hire someone else.
It was a gut punch and I was pissed. After two weeks I sort of expected it, but being told for sure just made it sting. I emailed her back and told her that I appreciate her wasting my time and not contacting me right after the interview, like she said she would and just because I was pissed, I threw in "and you are awful at your job".
After the fact, I realized it was stupid to respond as I did because there was no chance they would call me back if who they hired didn't work out. But then it ended up being for the best.

I was told they had to hire an AA to appease the EEOC.
Had this happen to me before too.
White privilege.

I have both a forestry degree (worked in the industry), and a ME degree (was working). Got turned down for a ME job at a lumber mill I'd been to multiple times in favor of someone with a PETE degree fresh out of school.
Got a call back from the lead engineer after badgering them. Everyone that I'd be working with rated me 4's and 5's, except the HR lady. She rated me 0, 1, and 2 in most areas. Wasn't enough to overcome.
I learned then that it doesn't actually matter how good you are at your job. It matters how much you can brown nose and trick people into believing you'd be good

Yes. Twice with the same company and I was perfect for the job.
First time someone who was already with the company wanted the region I interviewed for and they gave it to her therefore telling me I would have to move across the country if I still wanted it.
2nd time they gave it to a long time internal person and we’re able to bring him into that position at about 2/3rds pay than me. I was desperate and would have taken the pay cut.
All worked out. Good luck.

I don’t know the feeling I’ve only ever had to turn jobs down

I interviewed for a position at FedEx corporate and they FedEx'd me a rejection letter the next day. For a brief moment I thought getting a next day letter meant an offer was forthcoming. I was wrong. It was depressing.
Guess they don't use the USPS.

Yep. This happened to myself and 9 colleagues, totally blindsided. I left with a years salary after I signed a ND and agreed to not sue for age discrimination.
I had a job the next day.

I had a boss deny a promotion/transfer (after he recommended me for the role in the first place) because he felt like I would not like it.

Based on a recent thread, I'm pretty sure rabies feels worse.

Getting turned down for multiple jobs while unemployed, and then being forced to take up some shitty $10/hr job just cuz you're starting to get strapped for cash and realize the amount in your savings will not last you very long... That is a pretty crappy feeling.

Nope. I have received an offer for every job I have applied for since college.
