I installed a deep filter in my sink. No disposal. I just pull the filter out and clean it every day.
Much better than a disposal.
Yes people clog them with coffee grinds and even oil

Ever hear a plumber’s opinion on garbage disposals. They love them in other people’s houses, not their own…

I heard this first hand when my girlfriend decided to put an entire pot of cooked rice down the disposal instead of simply dumping it in the trash.

Incidentally, plumbers also enjoy the use of “flushable wipes”….

During a hurricane years ago we didn't have power for a week or so. My genius wife was dumping excess candle wax down the kitchen sink

I'd say she breaks one about every 3 years.

That’s not an “install” that’s a replacement.

Yes. It’s one of the easier projects for a homeowner.

Our water service sends out letters every year about those.

Easy to do, as others have attested.

Pro tip: use a standard scissor jack to keep the unit in place while you tighten it up. Jack takes all the hassle out of trying to hold it in place.

It’s easy. Really easy.
Having said that, if you have a heavy disposal and an awkward sink/cabinet placement, it can be a struggle to position the disposal on its catch.

Installing the disposal wasnt bad. Hooking up all the piping to the drain pipe was the bitch for me. The pipe comes out of my wall at an angle so I had to make a few trips to the hardware store.

Have newer models overcome the problem of your wife and daughters dropping silverware in the hole and letting it rip?

Nothing to it. Make sure your dishwasher drain pipe has a high loop.
Keeps it from backing up into the dishwasher.

I've been a home owner for 26 years. Two different houses, both have garbage disposals. I've changed them out once in each house, but never had one clog.

Things we don't put in there: coffee grinds, eggshells, rice in large quantities, and that's about it. I'll never own a house without one.

Your plumber is profiting off of dumb people.

Throw it in the trash and replace the proper drain. Useless POS.

Always replace with the same brand and horsepower, the plumbing is lined up, making it too easy. If your last one made 20 years, it should do the same.

Like most say, watch a YouTube.

But use same make, model and HP size.

It is easy.

The person who installed mine forgot to remove the plastic so the dishwasher would drain properly.

As long as you have tools and remeber to do that, you should be good.

I built a pc from just a motherboard to full gaming computer with just youtube.

If you fail this just put your dick in it after the plumber comes and takes your man card.
