Gambino crime family boss Frank (Franky Boy) Cali was gunned down and run over Wednesday night in a gory hit in front of his Staten Island home, police sources said.
Cali, 53, was shot six times in the chest and run over by a blue pickup truck on Hilltop Terrace near Four Corners Road in Todt Hill about 9:15 p.m. Medics took him to Staten Island University Hospital, where he died.

Sounds Phil Leotardo esque

Probably Paulie Walnuts or one of Sopranos crew responsible for the hit

I'm shocked he didn't pull through

I watched two docs on Amazon Prime the past week about Cosa Nostra. From the way they framed everything, these goombas had their hand in every damn thing possible for a long, long time.
Yet, I haven't heard anything about them since I was a wain in the 90's. What gives? Did they disappear? Locked up? Or are they better at being covert than they were before?

Government tore them apart through RICO prosecutions and flipping high ranking guys
Seems like there has been somewhat of a resurgence in stuff since 9/11 moved the FBI’s resources elsewhere
If this Cali guy is really the boss - it would be the biggest mob hit in nearly 35 years

Probably diversified and went more legit-ish.
Make the system work for you once you get high enough in the real crime family (politics)

That plus a stronger focus on the cartels and Russian mobsters.

Another one...

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — The man who was gunned down Sunday morning in what authorities are examining as a possible gangland slaying was an associate of a former Rhode Island mob boss, the Target 12 Investigators have learned.
Napoloen Andrade, 37, of Central Falls, was shot in the shadow of the Pawtucket halfway house where he was staying. Andrade — who has a lengthy criminal history — was wrapping up a sentence for taking part in a 2010 Connecticut home invasion where the victim was a 78-year-old associate of the Gambino crime family.
Andrade previously worked as a bouncer at Providence-area strip clubs with ties to organized crime. Retired R.I. State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell, a veteran mob investigator, said Andrade was an associate to former mob boss Luigi "Baby Shacks" Manocchio.
"He's an enforcer; he's the type of person when he shows up at your door you're going to what you’re asked to do," O'Donnell said. "It was unusual to have a mob boss trusting someone outside the mob family. That relationship developed over years and Louie Manocchio trusted him."

Some badass is taking out all the heads of the competing families Michael Corleone-style.

Hasn’t there been failed hits on this guy before? Seem to remember something about him being on the way back from Dunkin Donuts and they tried to whack him and failed. Maybe a different guy?

Tonight Frank Cali sleeps with the fishes.

This seems like too much of a coincidence:
Boss of the Bonanno crime family and leader of the Cosa Nostra, Michael "The Nose" Mancuso, was released within the last 24 hours from a Brooklyn halfway house after serving a 15 year federal sentence... the guy has been in jail since 2008.
LINK
His street boss and his consigliere, John "Porky" Zancocchio, and Joseph "Joe C" Cammarano Jr. were both found not guilty of numerous counts of racketeering and extortion after a jury trial... TODAY
LINK
So the boss of the entire cosa nostra (and the most powerful family in New York) gets released from a 15 year sentence within 24 hours of his #2 and #3 guys getting found not guilty at a huge federal trial... and then the head of the Gambino crime family is brutally and publicly hit outside his house?
Someone start writing a screenplay.
