Me either but this is no different that someone parking their car and walking in with a gun and doing this. This would be total different if happened in a secure area.
The response will likely be no more checked fire arms, I am sure everyone will feel a whole lot safer.

They don't. I had the news on earlier and the reporters are pretty much going by what they are being told by witnesses. And when in that situation, how many of those witnesses are able to accurately describe the situation? When they ask someone "how many people were around you when it happened?" and they give out a number. In the moment, it could seem like there were a lot more people than they were, etc. Its easy to get caught up in it when the news first breaks, but then you realize you just have to wait until proper authorities release confirmed information.

How would you like to be stuck on the jet still since this broke out? Apparently there are dozens of jets with people on-board sitting on the tarmac.

So if you can check your weapon, do you have to leave ammo behind like dumping out liquids, or can that go in the bag as well? His ammo could have been in his luggage?

Would suck.
I imagine they shut the door at least for security and passing around water. There is at least a bathroom on board too.
Sitting on the jet would not bother me so much as being close enough to hear it and not knowing exactly where it was coming from. Terminal, garage, and other crowded areas when people start running would SUCK.

The media refuses to believe the sheriff when he says there were shots fired in the parking garage.

You can check both weapon and ammo. Weapon must be unloaded and locked in hard case.
