Take a look in the mirror. Many people going through hard times are hard to deal with. They may be negative and all about how their world is ending and nobody wants to deal with that BS. They may be all about drama and nobody wants to deal with that BS. They may not listen to sound advice.

No excuse. Honor thy Father and Mother. Religious or not, it’s the right thing to do.

I watched my dad do this for my grandpa for years while the other siblings didn’t do a damn thing. You only have one true dad, keep doing what you are doing. While others may not appreciate it I’m sure he does.
ETA - I just realized that I used post #1000 responding to OP. I’m not mad.

Good point. We’ve had 2 friends going through divorces that we had to tell to stop talking about it. These people were a year out from their wives leaving them, still jumping directly into the topic anytime they spoke to someone.
I see both sides. I’m sure losing your relationship feels like the end of the world, as it would for me too. But yeah.. there’s only so much people can put up with.

I was jumping for joy when my divorce was finalized.

how’d that go?
They're guys, so it was basically "Dude, nobody wants to hear about how your life is in shambles anymore"
With a woman, it would have had to go much differently.

After my back surgery, it was pretty much just me and my pain killers for about three weeks. Good times...
Got any of them painkillers left? I wouldn’t mind 3 or 4 chased with a couple big swigs of southern comfort

Sounds like your older brother is a piece of work. Your dad appreciates what you’re doing

What I’ve noticed from the family aspect anyway is that the ones that don’t do shite will be the ones crying and flopping all over the place at the funeral. Then as soon as the funeral is over they will be the first to ask what they got left in the will.

I already know how it will go. My brother will up by the casket talking a big game and taking the pats on the back while I am away from all of that in the other room.

Been through that. Love knowing now how much more my friends are than they pretend family members were.

I've always maintained it's when times are tough when you find out who your friends are. Sometimes all it takes is a good ear to listen and offer some sound advice to the person having issues.
It doesn't always have to be about money or other tangible things.

Always heard people say this but never knew it was true until now.
I'm sorry you're going through tough times, baw. If certain family and friends have left your side, their true colors have shown you they are not true friends or loyal family members.
Maybe some of them simply don't know how to react or help?
Surely there are at least a few who have stayed by your side, right?
