Taking care of my 81 year Dad by myself. He needs almost 24 hour care. I have taken off of work to take care of him while my older brother who doesn’t work doesn’t do shite. I don’t regret anything I am doing. I don’t mind doing the majority of the heavy lifting but a break would be nice.

While it sucks to go through bad times it’s nice to know exactly where you stand with people. What goes around comes around. Just make sure to treat people the right way and things will work out for you.

I had a close friend lose his job a few years ago. Tried reaching out, didn't hear from him for six months. Figured I wouldnt press the issue.

At the same time, I got laid off from a job a year ago.. There were certainly a few friends that I considered close that offered zero support. You find out who your friends are when things get rough, thats for sure. Same goes for family.

That was true with like 95% of my friends and 99% of my family. However, most of my friends and all of my family just made it worse so it was for the better.

I’ve always been TOO good of a friend which leads to me being disappointed when friends aren’t anywhere near that in return. I still find myself going out of my way for people, but I’ve taught myself to lower my expectations from others.

Not everyone is thoughtful, and that’s okay too.

I’m so sorry to hear this Ponchy.

I had a similar situation with my sister, thankfully my brothers stepped up.

hopefully your dad can rally and have a few more good years

One silver lining is that you will NEVER have to deal with your brother again.

I think in a lot of cases people just don't know what to do/say. Not that they don't give it a shite. So it creates this awkward dynamic. Not always because they don't want to.

Obviously the answer is "just be there for them" but people think they have to do or say a lot of things. And they're not comfortable.

Almost always one kid that just checks the frick out when their parents get older and need help. Ponchy is dealing with that with his brother. Not to his level, but I can also relate.

I know what you mean. After my back surgery, it was pretty much just me and my pain killers for about three weeks. Good times...

You need to have a stern talk with your brother.
