I vote that calling Frankenstein’s monster just “Frankenstein” become official canon.

It’s a metonym in the same way “The Pentagon” is a metonym for “Department of Defense.”

Frankenstein being created by Dr Frankenstein is good enough. But there’s always a nerd who will correct you.

Dr. Frankenstein was the true monster.
Frankenstein's monster was a gentle soul until humanity refused to accept him.

Who, coincidently, took the name Frankenstein after long being inaccurately called that. Like it or not, the nickname stuck and now he knows exactly who everyone is talking about when they call him that. Also “the monster” was a bit vague.

Kind of like how Bandaids are technically adhesive bandages made BY the Band-Aid BRAND, but for intents and purposes they are known as Bandaids now and everyone knows what you mean when you say it.

Seconded. I’m the same.

It’s like that stupid saying “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”

Yes you can. You can’t eat your cake and have it too.

I’ve been called a pedantic.

Since we're already voting on things we have no control over, why don't we go ahead and clear up the little issue of how his name is pronounced...

Well that’s not the way Mary Shelly wanted it.

Why mess with what is an otherwise incredible novel?

ETA, one of my favorite lines:
quote:

”Here then, I retreated, and lay down, happy to have found a shelter, however miserable, from the inclemency of the season, and still more from the barbarity of man"

Knowledge is being able to remember the name of Dr Frankenstein's creation.
Wisdom is recognizing the doctor is the real monster of the story.
