Franco’s thief steals over $1mill - gets house arrest

This seems like she comes out way ahead on this deal. Even her lawyer seems surprised.
Bunch of details on how they stole the money at the link. Long story short, it wasn’t some one time thing. These two women cooked the books together over 8 years and stole in a variety of ways. They were draining the business of cash and for some reason the Judge is letting them walk. Pretty messed up.

I guess. Sounds like she will have plenty of time to bang. You will just have to do it at her place. I bet it’s pretty nice given the amount of cash she stole.

Jennifer Thompson, the former business office manager for Franco's Athletic Club, was sentenced to three years of house arrest Wednesday for her role in an embezzlement scheme that bilked the popular Mandeville health club of $1.7 million.
Owner Ron Franco said he was shocked at what he considered the light sentence handed down by 22nd Judicial District Judge Richard Swartz. "She stole $1 million and got away with it," Franco said.
Thompson, 48, was sentenced to 15 years, but 12 years of that was suspended, according to her attorney, Buddy Spell. The three remaining years will be served under house arrest, followed by three years of probation. She is allowed to leave her home to go to work, church and medical appointments, Spell said.
"I have mixed feelings about how it all went down," Spell said. "At the end of the day, she did OK. She's got a lot of work to do now."
Another former employee, Emily Davis, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but one year suspended, and also will serve it under house arrest.

I don't get it, she doesn't have to pay it back?

Article said she has to pay 250k but on a schedule and nothing up front. Odd.

Female privilege on display boys.

And she can go to work, doctor and church without restrictions. That is most peoples Monday through Friday anyway. Her weekends may get a bit boring but otherwise I don’t see the punishment here.

House arrest and she can only leave for work, Dr appts, and church. So she has to spend all day Saturday in her house.
I can see giving her house arrest if she paid all the money back, but this is ridiculous. She could have gotten 15 years in prison. I don't blame Ron Franco for being pissed.

I don’t think i would be all that upset over house arrest. I would enjoy having to stay home

If she was good looking i guess he would have to pay her restitution.

Damn, that’s all?
We had a girl in our office embezzle just under $400,000. She got 10 years at hard labor. Bitch deserved. She damn near broke the company and the owner

Saw this in the paper this morning. Absolutely ridiculous lenient sentence for stealing that amount of cash.
I'm sure there are many folks in state prisons for many years for stealing far less than that. OH WAIT, she didn't use a gun, so it's OK to just cook the books.
Then to only have to make restitution on $1.7 million stolen at the reduced rate of $250K is an insult to the owner.

$1.7 million
Two women, 8 years and 1.7 million dollars. Gambling addicts? Drugs? how else do these two blow through that much money without having it still stashed somewhere?
a family member had someone steal north of $50k in a two year span. The thief had a shopping problem and it's easy to believe you can hide an extra $25k per years in spending. But it would be hard to hide $100k-ish per year without others in on it unless the money was just going in a blackhole like a casino.

House arrest would be the world’s greatest excuse to get out of having to do shite I don’t want to do.

However, if I stole over million dollars I wouldn't expect to have friends that would be inviting me places or asking me to help them do things like move valuable belongings.

We're looking for a new CFO. Anyone got her number?

That is an incredibly disappointing sentence, particularly for St. Tammany.
There's no way she woukd be able to repay 1.7 million, let alone 250k.
She gets a slap on the wrist, and the owner is fricked out of a ton of money.
frick a thief.
