I’m wondering where these jobs supposedly are.
Feels like an outright lie he can't possibly back up. This is an amazing salary for that job. People would be flocking to them if it existed.

some people familiar with this situation on social media have disputed this and say they start their mechanics cheap and treat them like shite

… that’s completely wrong.
It wasn’t Ford that convinced two generations that they were above getting their hands dirty and that a college degree in a worthless field would give them a prosperous life.

They screw the techs on their hours is why they don't want to work at dealerships.
Say a tech has to change a transmission under warranty. Ford says it takes 8hrs to do the job. The tech does it in 6 but everything went perfect. Ford will reduce the hours to 6 for future jobs. The next tech changes a transmission in 8 hrs but he had problems. Ford still only pays 6hrs for the job. The tech gets screwed out of 2 hrs.

That's not even close to why dealerships can't find techs. If they'd stop screwing them over on their hours they'd have no problem getting people.
This is exactly it. It’s not a corporate issue. No one wants to work for a slimy arse dealership. Plus most auto techs are strictly commission based, and getting fricked over constantly on warranty work gets old quick.

Ive got a tech that comes in to work all the time saying it averages 5 hours but he still gets paid for 8. It might be a dealer to dealer sort of thing

That's just an example not actual hours.

Ford has been unable to fill some 5,000 openings for mechanics despite offering a salary of $120,000 a year — prompting the company’s chief executive to warn of a dire shortage of skilled tradespeople in the US.

Some areas/schools are trying to do something about this. My son has 0 interest in college and wants to be an electrician. Starting his junior year he gets to start taking classes in Hs to obtain certifications instead of wasting his time on a “TOPS degree path.”
Assuming he passes everything he’ll walk in to votech school about 2 semesters ahead.

I like to know how much they paying the DEI person who is suppose to be recruiting.
If we have to get this news from the CEO of Ford then its a failure all around.

Why do you have to buy a 70k truck fool? You can get a 4 door f-150 for less than 40k.

This is a fail by liberals convincing everyone they need a worthless liberal arts degree and the effemination of men through promoting homosexuality and trans sexual tendencies.

You don't need them to make $120k (or anything close to that peak) for my point to stand.
That job at $60k is better than being on welfare
Tell that to the lazy on the government teat

Yep. The way shite is nowadays you got to disassemble the entire vehicle to get to a $7 connector that’s fricked up and the true cost of it is being absorbed by somebody getting paid flat rate trying to pay their bills.
Also being a mechanic is hard on the body. Fine in your 20s but shite starts to add up then you constantly working through nagging injuries.

Wouldn’t COL in the jobs location matter just a little? $120K sounds good unless the cost of living is considerably higher.

This thread reminds me of an interaction I had with a kid a few weeks back. A local trade school teacher recommended a kid to us for a position as a CNC mill/lathe operator.
So the kid comes in and sits down and as im asking about what he would like to do he tells me he would like to eventually manage a small shop one day or be a production supervisor at a shop. Ok. Good goals to have for yourself. He grew up around a machine shop with his dad and is HALFWAY through his machinist course in trade school. This is a legit good opportunity for him to start out and have a head start on lots of other kids doing the same program he is currently in.
He turned down the job because he thinks he can get $30/hr in our area (NE AL where you can make that kind of money at huge companies like Honda after several years experience) with ZERO experience. We started at $21.15/hr and went up to $22.50 after thinking it over a few days. He could be making $25+ within 6 months or so after a probationary period and us seeing what he can actually do outside of a class setting.
He still turned us down and there was another kid in his same program that jumped at $20.50/hr. Some of these applicants out there have expectations that are not in any way grounded in reality.

At 120k/y a mechanic would be strapped trying to buy a Ford truck for himself and an SUV for his wife.
Precisely. Make the starting salary $170k/y and let me know if there’s still a shortage.
Large multinational corporations are still addicted to low wage oversea workers to see what they truly should properly be offering US workers. This is across the entire spectrum - not just car makers. Sometimes the truth hurts.
