Any crazy stories? I have to pull the trigger on Friday for one of my sales guys. Dude is a loose cannon and has anger issues. Should be fun.

If he doesnt know he's about to be fired then you haven't been doing your job.

Nobody suddenly gets fired.

No real lunatic rantinga I can recall as most of the people I've had to let go knew why they were let go and even expected it to some extent. Now, the hardest was a single mom in her mid 20's with twin 4 year old daughters. She was stealing through falsified time reporting and some small expense report filings. It was a very tough meeting. She was a great girl, smart, driven etc but there was no way around it. Tore me up.

"anger issues"

Prayers sent.
Where should I send flowers and a card?

When I was 25, I had to fire a 72 year old auditor who couldn't stay out of his office bar until 4 as requested.

He was routinely quietly drunk by noon.

We allowed, and even encouraged having a small competition of bars among offices, but the guy had a problem...caught him driving one of the company lease vehicles after drinking.

I fired him on the spot.

He went to the owner of the company who he had known for 40 years. Naturally the owner sided with him. Called me in with him in the office.

When I explained to the owner the potential liability of his alcoholic friend running down a college kid on ULs campus, he fired him.

Owner apologized and asked me why I was willing to fire his long term friend and employee without asking. I explained my only concern was my paycheck, and as a result, his paycheck. He never questioned me again. And I made some seriously questionable calls.

I miss that business. His health issues and his wife's lack of trust shut it down.

My uncle used to be the hatchet man for a fortune 100 company. When there were wholesale sackings to be done, he would show up and give everybody the axe. That way he was the bad guy and not the local management team.

You should do it in the middle of the week, bigger risk of him coming back to the office and causing an incident

Speaking of which, I was going to start a thread on it. I’ve recently been doing training with some recent college grad. Nice enough but has some serious lacking in social awareness. He must have some anxiety or something because he comes across as an extreme try hard. He went on a long rant the other day about how he fired someone once from a college job and was clearly getting off on it. Pretty horrible taste

Looks like I’m going to have to beat someone’s arse come Friday.

Seriously though that sounds like me. The last 3 times I was written up at work were due to anger issues. One was a faulty gas gauge in the company vehicle that left me stranded on bluebonnet at 4:00 on a Friday. I punched the gas gauge out and through the dashboard after being honked at 1000 times for being stuck at the mall light. The next two times where ripping a gear shifter out of the steering column.

While this sounds good, and is mostly true, I have found myself hoodwinked a time or two and upon discovering that made swift decisions to fire "suddenly." There are also other circumstances. But yeah, for the most part you are right.
