If he has anger issues you need security close by.

We let a guy go once who had anger issues and had to talk HR in get security for it. When we let him go he lost it and security had to escort him out. HR thanked us for making sure security was available. If you don’t already have a security team contract someone for the day.

It’s been at least ten years since I fired someone. I try to fire them up.

Last lady I fired basically had a double life as a super party person which caused her to miss a lot of time without warning. She was in jail from an overnight shoplifting arrest when I decided to let her go. I helped her get out of jail on a signature bond and then told her to look elsewhere at the front door of the jail.

I love the firing scene in Jerry Maguire. Go that route. Also, at least twice I’ve sat next to guys in planes that fired employees over the phone before takeoffs. How shitty is that?

You never really know with people. I’ve let a person go who was kind of crazy and they were fine with it because they knew it was coming. Another person we investigated for a month and had multiple interviews with was let go and they never saw it coming. They were surprised and everyone in the room just looked at this person and went “you’re surprised, really?”.

When I was a younger man many years ago my company bought a competitor. After integration* of the 2 business I had to lay off the a branch warehouse manager that had been with the company most of his life. I met with him in his office and explained what he already knew, that that location was eventually going to close.

At the end of my conversation he says very quietly "There is one thing I need to give you....and he ever so slowly reaches into his desk and pulls out a long sharp knife and holds it up in front of his head and says "here is the knife we use to cut the....er.. birthday cakes....you should have it"

I about shite myself self as he was pulling the knife up from the desk. The he started laughing his arse off...he got me good.

*time frame needed to see whose job or facility was duplicated and who was the weakest of the weak**

** you dont buy a failing competitor for a dime on a dollar because they are full of superstars (regardless of what THEY think)

Get HR in the room when it happens. Be calm, just facts, no getting emotional.

Let’s see, I fired a girl one time because she went to either Spanish town or st patty’s day and showed up so drunk she literally fell a few times. We made her call an Uber to get home.

Fired a cook one time because he was leaving for the night, had a foam cup with a lid on, his buddy took a pen and punched a hole in the bottom. When nothing came out, we made him open the lid to find 3 filets in the cup.

Had another cook take a packet of shrimp put in at the bottom of a trash can, line the trash can, proceed to use said trash can until it was full. I guess he stepped away to the bathroom when someone else took the can out and discovered the now mostly de-thawed shrimp.

I’ve only done it once. Have HR there. Start with “Jim, we’re letting you go”...

Eta or whatever his/her name is.

Be direct and to the point.

Remember that you aren't having a discussion with your soon to be former employee; no back-and-forth.

I like to fire people on Monday as opposed to Friday. I fired three this week. My theory is they will go right out and look for another job and move on and not let the negative emotions stew over the weekend and effect their home life more.

Friend of mine was managing a department store. He called a young boy and girl employee making out in the storage area.

So he walks into the front of store, gets on the PA system, calls their names, and tells them they are fired

Baw. Please tell me he did not really call stair names. That's the first of a big set of steps in letting someone go.

A drunken Hispanic employee under my supervision once tried to fight me at 630AM. I gave him at least 2 chances while speaking with him. 'Go home and take the day off' 'Don't say something you'll regret'

He took a few steps towards me and I started yelling at him like a dog. 'NO!!!, GO HOME! RIGHT NOW!'

Later that day, I received 3 different voicemails from him threatening to kill me and I was a piece of shite. Guy lived about 1/2 mile from the work property.

Then he had the audacity to ask my assistant for his job back.

The last 3 times I was written up at work were due to anger issues. One was a faulty gas gauge in the company vehicle that left me stranded on bluebonnet at 4:00 on a Friday. I punched the gas gauge out and through the dashboard after being honked at 1000 times for being stuck at the mall light.

Get out and push your car off to the side fatass. Then you won't get honked at 1000 times.

I had to fire a guy once for looking at porn on his work computer. He had already received a warning. Didn’t feel bad about it at all.

This was before smart phones. It was actually pretty common to catch people looking at porn on work computers, but typically after a warning, they would stop.
