No crazy stories. I know how to handle most people.

That being said I hated it the few times I’ve had to do it. And in all cases, they had to know it was coming. They basically fired themselves.

My Regional VP came in to fire me on a Friday and it did not work out well. It was a CYA move to protect himself and a few other folks.
He did not know I was already in contact with the General Counsel of the company over the issue. I called the GC while the words firing me were still coming out the VPs mouth. I then handed the phone to the VP who was ordered back to the corporate office where he was fired. That was fun.

Exactly, the last 2 I have had to fire knew what was up before I called them in. Neither was surprised.

There were some numbers I was reporting on a potential deal that eould have lead to a lucrative bonus for said VP but been a disaster in the long term for the company. I was told to not put any such information in an email again. I was being fired for violating that order. This was post Sarbanes-Oxley so I would have had a nice federal suit had I just let him fire me.

frick that corporate BS. Adults can/will do their job or they can't/won't. It is that simple.
You get a few verbal warnings from me and that's it. I am happy to teach and answer questions, but I'm not running a day care.

There are people that build up such a huge persecution complex they are blind to reality. They have an excuse for everything they do wrong and it is always someone else's fault. Those are the ones you have a security officer there for when you do the firing.

No crazy stories but in 20yrs, I’ve had to let 2 people go. But I give them this option to ease the pain, resign and get your 2/3rd PTO paid out or get fired and get nothing. Seems to ease the pain.

Sounds like some of you need to do a better job of vetting potential employees, and develope them post hiring.

You better document that shite or you'll seriously regret it one day.

Only takes one fired employee to turn that around on you and when you've got no documentation of warnings and corrective action? Good luck.

One was a faulty gas gauge in the company vehicle that left me stranded on bluebonnet at 4:00 on a Friday. I punched the gas gauge out and through the dashboard after being honked at 1000 times for being stuck at the mall light. The next two times where ripping a gear shifter out of the steering column.

Had to fire a guy after he slipped cocaine into a girl's drink during the holiday party. I still don't understand why he would slip cocaine into a drink.

People fire themselves...... not many people just get fired. Firing someone isn't hard, what's hard is when you on the 3rd round of layoffs and having to layoff someone you've worked with for 20 years through no fault of their own..... that sucks.

I once had to fire a guy who was always on time, always had a good attitude, always in the right uniform, etc.

I felt absolutely terrible doing it, but it had to be done.

Had another cook take a packet of shrimp put in at the bottom of a trash can, line the trash can, proceed to use said trash can until it was full. I guess he stepped away to the bathroom when someone else took the can out and discovered the now mostly de-thawed shrimp.

This was happening at the BR Whole Foods for a couple of years. One of the produce guys would nab a bag of shrimp, he’d bring it into the produce cooler where all of the scraps / donations would go. Throw it in a random box that looked like trash scraps and then he’d meet the people who we “donated” the scraps to after work and sell the shrimp.

Don’t worry, the high class management at WF gave them a slap on the wrist and they kept their jobs trash
