It's not that crazy. Some people just don't like traveling or prefer driving.

In this day and age, it’s pretty crazy. Now, if he’s taking road trips every year, and has driven all over North America, I’ll give you that. Knowing the OT though, I wouldn’t put money on that being the case.

Hey, just a heads up for you plant baws like me. Your TWIC card works as a TSA pre-check. You just have to enter some numbers off the back of the card and boom, you get to jump the line.

Empty out your water bottle. There are free refill stations in nearly every airport

Be prepared to
- remove your laptop
- remove any large electronic (video game console)
- belt, shoes, phone, etc

I have accumulated 100,000 + miles in the last 3 years so I have a little exp. I have pre check and clear so my TSA experience is going to be a little different than yours but in all those flights I’ve only come across two genuine assholes. Oddly, both were in Memphis. Generally, those folks are working slobs like the rest of us and are just doing their job. Don’t stress about them finding anything. On separate occasions I’ve mistakenly brought 2 knives, a small box of .22 ammo, razor, a utility razor, and other stuff. They give you the option to keep it and go check your luggage or throw it away. They’re strict on the 3.4 ounce liquid rule. I have a script for testosterone and usually bring a vial and syringe/needle on flights and it’s never been an issue. Denver is a very nice airport (had the opportunity to sleep there during one of the big ice storms 2 years ago) but it can get very busy. The tsa line can stretch pretty far. I’d allow extra time for that if you’re flying out of there on your return leg.

Some folks have posted that they tried it, and the airport workers had no idea what the TWIC was. So your mileage may vary.

Are you on the mentally ill? Are you a blonde? Are you both? How is this even possible for some who has flown 100k miles in 3 years? I fly ALOT and I’ve never had this happen.

Make sure you have your proof of vaccine card OP, otherwise you won’t be allowed on the flight

Yeah, I saw that (about attempting to use a TWIC card) and was also skeptical that it’s universally acceptable.

Like trying to use a GOES card (issued by US Customs) as an ID at a bank to cash a check.

I get that Homeland Security is purportedly a government entity, but try negotiating about a TWIC card to a local TSA miscreant with a badge & gun at the Minot Airport when your flight is boarding.

Apparently I've come to the right place place for general insight

I mean they literally have a very in depth website telling you what is and isn't allowed

I will give you the basic cliffs tho:

carry on- no weapons/sharp objects, drugs, or liquids more than 3.4 oz

checked bags- no drugs, certain things like guns have to be declared and in a case with a TSA approved lock

When you get to the airport, go to the SW counter or kiosk and check in. They'll weigh your suitcase and take it or direct you to a place nearby to hand it over to the baggage folks. TSA will x-ray it as it makes it way to the plane, and they may enter it if they want.

SW site says they allow 50 lbs per checked suitcase. Overweight item is $100 for 51-70 lbs. Put a sheet of paper inside with your name and cell in case it gets lost and someone gives a damn about getting it back to you. You can lock it with TSA approved locks that you can buy on Amazon, Walmart, etc. The approved locks allow TSA to enter with a master key but may deter a casual thief. Tie an odd color ribbon on the suitcase handle so you can spot it when it comes out of the baggage carousel at your destination airport.

For carry-on items, TSA says:

quote:

You are allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint. These are limited to travel-sized containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item. Placing these items in the small bag and separating from your carry-on baggage facilitates the screening process. Pack items that are in containers larger than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters in checked baggage.

Read SW policy on max size/number of carry on items.

So have any contact solution, toothpaste, shaving cream, etc. that you want to carry on in a 3.4 oz. or smaller size, and put all those in a single quart zip lock bag. If you have bigger size liquids, pack them in the checked suitcase (also in a zip lock bag to avoid leaking issues)

After you check in at the counter, get a boarding pass, and hand over your checked suitcase, you will proceed to TSA screening with your carry on items. They will have you remove shoes/belt and place them and your carry on bags, pocket contents, etc. in a plastic bin to go through an x-ray/conveyor belt. You will walk in your socks, while holding up your pants, through a separate machine for x-ray/metal detection. You and your items will be reunited on the other side if all goes well.

The irony is that TSA is actually part of the Department of Homeland Security.

you don’t actually show them your twic. You can just enter it online before and your boarding pass comes up with pre check
