People don't want local businesses kicked out and replaced with bland national brands. Not saying that is happening in this instance. But it's happened other places in the city.
Commercial leases are still very inexpensive here, relative to other major downtown areas. New owner comes in and raises rents, pricing local businesses out, but it's still a lot cheaper than rent in Chicago or New York, so a big national brand jumps on it.

Nola.com updated their story.
What the hell does that mean, they can't honor the lease? Did they buy out her lease?
Wouldn't surprise me if the new owner paid her to terminate the lease early, and she's still complaining on facebook.

It's like San Francisco the change was great if you could afford it.
Everyone else went to Oakland or Richmond.
Once that Starbucks went up on St Claude and all the university coffee shops became Starbucks I saw this coming.

Yeah. But you still got Hey Joe and other places that are very local. I just don't see that part of Magazine going national anytime soon. Izzo's did knock out Popeye's at Marengo, but Popeye's is, well, Popeye's.
I don't see Chili's buying out Miss Mae's or the Brothers Three. Superior Seafood is a Louisiana guy.
The FQ may go that way. I'm no huge fan of the Quarter anyway, and I think that ship sailed thirty years ago. I doubt that happens Uptown.

Aren't there about 10 independent coffee houses on St Claude right now?
Pretty sure PJs is at Tulane, or was the last time I went through.
