STUART, Fla. – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was shot and killed Wednesday morning along Interstate 95 while assisting a disabled vehicle.

Trooper Joseph Bullock, a 19-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol, was "fatally wounded in the line of duty while assisting the public on I-95 in Martin County," the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles announced Wednesday afternoon.

Bullock was an Air Force veteran.

FHP Director Col. Gene Spaulding said during a news conference Wednesday evening a Riviera Beach Police Department officer who was passing by along I-95, approached, shot and killed the individual who shot Bullock.

I don't understand. He was helping someone, like with a flat tire? How did it end up in a situation where he was shot?

But carry on with your mission, CNN, and don't bother covering these stories, but instead cover a story of a police officer shooting a thug running from a robbery scene and pass it off as "Police brutality"

Last LSP Trooper killed was that one near Alexandria that pulled over to help the guy stuck in the mud. He had no clue the driver was drunk and a homocidal maniac. Guy came out of hit truck with a shotgun and killed the Trooper before he had a chance to react. You just never know.

First time I have seen the Blue Alert come across my phone. Didn't know what the hell was going on until I hopped on Twitter and read about the shooting.

Prayers up for both of the fallen officers & their families.

What am I missing here? Did this officer witness the shooting as he was passing by or something and stop to confront the gunman? It’s poorly written as to how this officer came to be on the scene killing the gunman

Probably close to a dozen LEOs killed over the past few years have happened under similar circumstances. They'll respond to a wreck or stalled vehicle with no idea that the driver or passenger is motivated to kill them (for various reasons). It's tragic. It happened to an LSP trooper a few years ago.

Helping someone by running their record, checking their registration... anything to ratchet it up to more interaction. Easily could be justifiable, but it's 99.8% likely how the situation escalated.

The absolute worst I’ve seen was an episode of Adam Ruins Everything......it was shockingly bad how they villainized law enforcement. They typically support assertions with facts/sources and the sources were the typical left leaning media outlets.

I’m usually not dialed in but that episode was complete trash.

Doesn't sound right. They don't stop and help disabled motorists. I have seen hundreds of them, and deputies, pass right by disabled motorists.

Florida has Road Rangers that aid disabled motorists.

Liberals/democrats will call for this hero to be convicted of murder.

That article is horribly written, but I’m going to guess the person that was broken down had a record and when the officer stopped to check on them the person broken down shot him.

I have no idea if it’s routine, but FHP definitely help people broken down. If anything they’ll pull over behind them so as to form a safety barrier with their vehicle.

Weird tragic story

quote:

Around 10:15 a.m. this morning, Trooper Bullock was helping a disabled vehicle on I-95 near mile marker 107 when the subject he was helping shot and killed him. An off-duty Riviera Beach Officer who was in the area saw the events unfold and pursued the suspect, fatally shooting him.

"The officer pulled his weapon and there was gunfire exchange," said Adam Phillips, an eye witness who pulled over to help after seeing Trooper Bullock laying on the side of the road.

The Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC is expected to run out of room for new names on the stone walls in 2029.

There are a lot of young sons and daughters right now on a fatal journey to a violent or tragic early death and they don’t even know it.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Wall Memorial

I was unaware that the shooter had the ghey killin' gene.

Also, that was outside of Lake Charles. Tpr. Vincent.
