The Alamo was the most disappointing point of my childhood.
I was the biggest Davy Crockett fan in the world. Couldnt wait to visit. Driving up to that little piece of shite in the middle of downtown drove me to burn my coonskin cap and crockett rifle when I got home from my trip.

That’s bc it’s a new attraction. The Alamo has been around for so long that it won’t generate the allure of being new

Haha I tell everyone I can to lower their expectations before visiting. I too was very disappointed as a history buff young lad.

Haha, it really is sort of shocking at first. I think everyone has their own "that's it?" feeling when first seeing it.
Surrounded by sky scrapers in the middle of downtown San Antonio doesn't feel like it should in the movies.

It's for chicks. Even the bakery which I could get down with has a loooooooong line wrapping outside so we didn't wait for that, the only thing that could have made it worthwhile on a 105 degree day in August.

I stayed a week in downtown San Antonio for a work conference(but had already seen the Alamo before).
I don't know, I thought it was kinda cool that the downtown area surrounds it. It was nice being able to easily walk to it from my hotel. And you can tell the respect that they give the chapel(not allowed to take pictures inside, everyone is very quiet once in there). When I was there they had a pretty extensive exhibit on Jim Bowie that was interesting.
ETA: Although the Alamo is really one of those places you only usually visit once.

First time I went I couldn't believe it was that small. Not in a bad way, but as in those guys fought in there and did what they did in such a small area. It does kind of take you back when you first see how small it is, but neat to think about it.
