That is going to be one weirdly shaped state.

Two of the counties trying to break off (Sherman and Lake) aren't contiguous with the other three (Grant, Baker, and Malheur) or Idaho itself - they would be two islands by themselves.

In both Oregon and California, the red parts of the state are the poorest and trashiest parts, and pretty much utterly dependent on the blue parts for what little they do have.

I'm sure another state would be just *clamoring* to take them in

The graphic in the OP makes it look like it's 2/3 of the state.

So what happens after a majority votes yes? Idaho have to vote to accept them?

I feel bad for people in eastern Oregon/Washington, central/southern Illinois and everywhere in Minnesota outside of the twin cities. Their votes are completely wasted due to huge metro areas in one part of the state.

Ah yes, because the miles of miles of homeless encampments, trash and drug paraphernalia everywhere, riots every weekend for almost a year, etc. all make Portland so much better than the rural areas.

Do you feel bad if it's the other way around? Say in TN, Shelby and Davidson counties are blue in a sea of red and have basically no influence in the state government as far as numbers go.

Orange County won't vote for a GOP presidential candidate again in your lifetime bud

Also, Napa is one of the most Democratic counties in the entire state. 0/2

I thought it was weird that he singled out the Willamette Valley for criticism when the blue areas are largely confined to the Portland area and a few college towns. I'd guess Willamette Valley is home to the vast majority of the rural population in OR and definitely the ag industry. The counties voting on this are mostly sparsely populated. Sherman County has less than 2k people. All 5 combined barely hit 50k.

wouldn't Idaho also have to approve this?

I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Idaho is getting a Cali influx like everyone else so they’d love to have some conservative infusion to offset that.

If this is somehow successful, I truly believe this will be the rebranding of America as we know it. You are going to see many areas in the country split.

Eastern Oregon becomes Idaho
Eastern Washington joins Idaho as well
Upper Peninsula becomes a state
Upstate New York becomes a state
Colorado splits
California splits into 3 separate states
DC becomes a state
PR becomes a state

States with one major urban area controlling the other 90% of the state is going to cause major issues that simply cannot be resolved. USA will end up with 60-70+ states.

That's pretty awesome. Good luck to them.
