Welcome to democracy.

Here's a hint...if you want to have a larger say in government, encourage your party to create a more inclusive platform. Becoming more insular is just going to push you further off into the lonely void.

Also, there are more "hard working" people in urban and metropolitan areas than out in the sticks. These cultural centers pay taxes that allow rural people to survive.

I like the sound of the Idaho Empire.

I might even look at property in Imperial Idaho.

Can we kick St. Louis city over to Illinois?

Sure, let's take Nashville and Memphis as an example. My vote means jack shite, even sometimes in city elections because of the influence of the state legislature. The state has been so gerrymandered that even though polls put us at roughly 60%/40% red/blue, our state legislature is actually 75%/25% red/blue.

Several years back, Davidson county wanted to build a rapid bus transit line. I admit it was ill-conceived, but it is what the city wanted, so it shouldn't have been a statewide issue. The state legislature did not like the bus plan, so they passed a law banning rapid bus transit in the entire state.

On another occasion, Nashville and Memphis city councils passed laws to decriminalize marijuana. They cited it was a strain on city resources to go after low-level pot uses. Again, the state legislature passed a law that forbid municipalities from decriminalizing pot. Thankfully our DA gave them the finger and just refused to prosecute any small marijuana cases.

So even if I vote for a pro-pot and pro-transit city council member, it doesn't matter because of the influence of the rural citizens that don't live anywhere near my community.

All of that said, if these counties want to leave Oregon and Idaho wants them, I don't see the issue, assuming the counties are contiguous with Idaho.

Survive??? The rural people grow all the food we eat and the cotton our clothes are made from, harvest the timber and minerals we use to build, pump the oil and gas out of the ground for our energy, and do the lion's share of what's left of our manufacturing plus most of the fixing and repairing of our consumer items.

If everyone who lives outside of the 25 most populated cities went "on strike", our civilization would crumble into Mad Max-like anarchy in a matter of months, if not weeks. Conversely, if you shut down the notoriously corrupt Chicago political machine or the transgender junkie embracing Portland government offices, the people in southern Illinois and western Oregon would get by just fine.

Urbanites pay more taxes but most of that goes straight down the rathole of government grift and bureaucracy. And before you say "roads" those projects are funded by logical use taxes collected at the gas pumps. And before you say "schools" those are funded by local property taxes.

Rural people can survive without your taxes.

It's amazing how idiotic progressives are. shite on farmers, judges, lawyers, guides...all the people that make up rural America.

Just because you can't survive by yourself, doesn't mean that's true for everyone else.

I mean, it’s a pretty sensible concept. The whole point of government offices are to represent the needs and wants and the nearby citizens. In states that are divided, this becomes a huge issue. It’s silly to suggest people should have to move throughout their lives to enjoy the type of leadership they desire.

It doesn’t need to be inclusive if you like what your elected officials do.

This scares me. It’s like the libs were late to the party on discovering the beauty of those places. They’ll be screwed soon too.

Bend is on the wrong side of the border. But it's close enough that I'd happily move a few miles to the East.

Yankees moved to Nashville, and pushed for policies that would destroy the city, and the culture that made Nashville special.

And natives in the legislature fought back.

Yeah, that's bullshite. Those ranchers in Eastern Oregon aren't poor. By any stretch.
