My sister just called me and told me she can't make it last-minute. The room is in the French Qtr. and is paid for. I'm bringing my girlfriend and was looking for any legitimate advice or recommendations. Thanks.

Walk away from the rainbow flags.

The parades are boring and not worth watching. Spend your time in the French quarter with the real party people. White people in the hotel are your best bet for drugs. Don’t trust a local they don’t have shite.
There are a surprising number of bathrooms on bourbon. Collect as many good beads as you can to exchange for tit flashes. If you think the beads are subpar throw em on the ground; frick it someone else’s problem.
Eat a solid breakfast. You will need it. Search eventbrite for concerts over the weekend.

Bring your raincoat. This weekend is going to be a washout. Not a good year for your 1st Mardi Gras, unfortunately. But enjoy the city anyway.

Honestly, prepare for crowds...you have probably never dealt with anything like that before. Plan on parking your car when you get there and not moving it again until you leave.
As with any large crowd, there is the danger of pickpockets, etc....keep your cash in your front pocket and don't even think of your girlfriend carrying a purse or anything like that.
Hope you are not easily offended, because you are going to see a lot of shite that you would get arrested for anywhere else in the world. However, do whatever you have to do in order to avoid pissing in the street or fighting, as that will get you arrested with quickness...and if you get arrested, you stay in Jail until Ash Wednesday before they will process anyone out.
All of that said, there is nothing like Mardi Gras...everyone should go at least one time. I haven't been in over a decade and I still smile every time I think of it!

Mardi Gras in the Quarter is an extremely overcrowded mess. I sincerely regret this will be your 1st experience of Mardi Gras having to stay there... nearly all of the crazies are from out-of-town and doing things they would never do at home... if you get overwhelmed, head out past downtown to Uptown for a more realistic, more local and less frenzied Mardi Gras experience.

Are there any solid blues bars? Nice titty-bars? What part of town do the predators roam?

Going to need one of these....

Everywhere. Keep your wallet in your front pocket while walking in crowds and try not to walk down low traffic streets around the quarter late at night. Keep your guard up.

There has been a major crackdown on titty-bars in the last few days down here with places getting shut down and losing the liquor licenses. But free titty viewing is plentiful if you're in the quarter during Mardi Gras anyway. Just grab a drink and watch.

The New Orleans part.
But seriously, Bourbon or the streets nearby get shadier after midnight the further you get away from Canal. Just don't be wandering alone that way without a clue and you should be ok. Also, don't go by the McDonalds on Canal unless you like catching a bullet in the arse.

Literally the worst advice I've ever read

Head uptown on St Charles Ave. I’d avoid Bourbon other than Pat Obrein’s.
I’ll be driving in from Atlanta

Be sure to post when you get home so we know you survived.

I would agree with this, but if someone has never been to Bourbon, they will probably want to go there during the earlier hours for some good people watching and just to experience that before it gets to be too much (though some people like the "too much" part). If trashy is what you're looking for, Bourbon St. at night is the main course.

Me too. Looks like a 7-8 hr drive. We party hard, can't wait. This has always been on my bucket list.
