She should mentally prepare for lots of groping. It is so crowded you won't even know who is doing it.

Btw, the Hand Grenade is strong and will get you drunk really fast, but the Monsoon at Port of Call is the strongest drink in New Orleans...after 1 your teeth will be vibrating and you might start crying for no reason. And they make a great hamburger too.

Find a way to stay hydrated it is a marathon. Walk down royal and cut over to your destination on bourbon. I enjoy Friday afternoon on bourbon, much more low key. All your shite in your front pocket at all times. If you try to go uptown it can take some trigger work to dodge the parades. If you watch parades have an ice chest of some type, since it is the two of y’all prob want something portable.

Bourbon during the day might be okay, but at night, screw that unless you have a private balcony. Once......once when I was 17 or 18 and I'd never do it again. St. Charles/Napoleon on Sunday is about the best Mardi Gras experience I've had.

Check out nomenu .com and go to the restaurants by neighborhood section so that you find the legitimately good restaurants in the Quarter and surrounding areas like the CBD and Warehouse District rather than the tourist traps. Some reasonably priced recs are Muriel's, NOLA, Mr.B's, Coops(divy but tasty) Cafe Adelaide.

It's not the war zone people make it out to be. Bourbon St is fun especially Mardi Gras day. After Endymion on Saturday and Bacchus on Sunday the flood of people onto bourbon street will be so packed that at times you may feel your feet lose contact with the ground. It's happened to me several times and I'm 220 pounds. Do not miss those parades though. Check out a local TV news website for their routes.

If anyone starts talking to you out of the blue while you're on the street, it's probably a hustle. Be polite and walk past. You got your shoes on your feet on bourbon St or whichever street you're standing on at the time.

The guy isn't coming in with kids. Uptown is boring for twenty some things. And then to go there only for Pat O's? Nah.

He should hang near bourbon mostly except after Endymion and Bacchus have finished and it becomes a soccer crush.

This or better yet, if he just wants to see a parade and wants somewhere less crowded, go catch Thoth on Magazine St. on Sunday. Napoleon and that end of St. Charles is crowded as all hell. At least it's not full of trashy folks though.

OP, please don't spend all of your time in the quarter. Sure do it for one day, but get out and explore the city.

And if you have specific restaurant questions, go over to the food board.

Be prepared to walk and walk and walk and walk then walk some more.

Watch your arse and stay on the main streets, the muggers will be out in full force.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get caught urinating in public. You will be arrested and be taken straight to the lockup.
