I have to go with shorts. First thing I was reminded of was photographing a dancer in blue and yellow spandex biking shorts some years ago. Dancers can do some incredible things with their bodies.
Not complaining about the current fashion of yoga pants and leggings though. Saw one of the best butts ever in the mall last weekend. I really appreciate all of the choices women have to torture us.

There is such a thing as yoga shorts. These are Spandex (or Lycra) high-waisted "scrunch-butt" yoga shorts that could be purchased at Aeropostale in the mall. Could also get Live Love Dream "Best Booty Ever" workout shorts there, and Forever XXI and other stores have similar. Even women's marketing is focused on butts these days.
