n cases like this its best to just straight up report the card was stolen and dispute ever making the charge
Yes, lie. Lying always helps in these situations.

This is why they have travel insurance
The common misconception with travel insurance is that you can just cancel whenever, for whatever reason, and receive your money back.
99% of travel insurance offered still requires some extenuating circumstance (medical, strike, political conflict, weather, etc.)
In the case of weather, these policies all have different rules. They typically require the area to be under evacuation, or at minimum, Tropical Storm warning.

Also, host is a mega douche.
For what? Having a policy that OP knew fully but wants to break simply because his vacation will be rained on?
Is your idea that all of Gulf Shores should shut down business this week?

A douche for being a douche. Period.

he should have bought the property for an investment. Instead he just tried to short-term rent it and he's going to lose.
Oops, sorry, wrong thread.

You’d lose a lot of money in the rental business, better stick to your day job

This storm is not likely to affect Gulf Shores much. If it does, the main downside will be ~1-2.5 inches of rain at the worst.
Several years ago I had a similar situation on a weekend trip. When I got to GS it was sunny, then it started to rain that night and rained for the rest of the weekend. Turned out to be one of the best times ever

I would not count on much or anything back from them.

Not true. You have to have a valid reason. You can't just do it "anytime you use a CC for a purchase".

Depends. Some people have charge back insurance. So they will dispute then drop it. So you get your money and they don't lose your money either.
Though to me it seems your bank will win as service paid for was not received.

I don't know, I've had some people try and charge back on me for bs reasons. One guy was such a douche. He even bragged how he was with Amex for 30 years and they have his back.
Nope, he lost. I keep excellent records, including using video and pictures and document everything.
I've never lost a charge back.

You're an example of my point. If the merchant has proper documentation and doesn't back down the bank will back him.
People don't understand that that merchant is also a customer and VISA, Mastercard and Amex will back the merchant. They love getting that percentage on every transaction.

Some of your posts cause me to think you have a lot to learn about life. this is one of those posts.
You may find your bank would rather just refund you.
But you signed a contract, paid for it, and now you don't want to uphold your end of the contract. You took on this risk, and there are ways you could have mitigated this risk (travel insurance) but you didn't.
As long as the property is useable, I don't see why you feel you are entitled to get your money back because you chose to not go.
If there is a chance the beach will flood, they will issue a mandatory evac and you will be taken care of. Otherwise, no.
Next time, don't book a prepaid rental during hurricane season without travel insurance.

You will get your money back. Bank will side with you.
But like other guy posted, Airbnb may black ball you. I'd still blast the guy for not being a decent human and understanding your situation.

So anytime there is a tropical storm in the Gulf the entire coast should shut down and everyone sent home along with a refund?

I smell a "Some a-hole is trying to cancel their Air BNB reservation for my place" spinoff coming soon.

I don't think the AirBnB owner is the one not being a decent human being in this situation.
