To be fair though, that could still happen even if you have kids.

What's even worse is having kids that don't want to pull the plug when it's way past time. See it every day. We all know the patient is fricked from the get go, but the family is holding out hope they'll recover.
They really don't know any better, but it sucks to see someone there just existing, while everything breaks down. Fortunately most of them are unconscious, but still.

Yep
1)Kids are grown and can end up being total selfish assholes who don't care that you are rotting away in a home...now they finally have time to travel or are too busy with their kids to worry with you. Visiting you at least once a quarter is enough to still stay in your will right?
2)horrible events in life happen and your children don't outlive you and you are alone anyways

getting home to see my kids.
Nothing like my daughter running up to greet me, so excited.

Feels great to have kids, too.
I’ve been away on business all week. The thing I looked forward to the most was getting home to see my kids.
I typically share this sentiment, but when I arrived home yesterday, I had to discipline all 3 of them for being disrespectful to their Momma.

That's a whole other thread topic there. Just because medicine can keep your loved one technically breathing and heart beating...doesn't necessarily mean it should always be used. That's why people need to have the difficult discussions with their loved ones now. Make it known what they want in the event they are only being kept alive because of machines and tubes. At what point is it ok to let them go?

Meanwhile, millions of food stamp mothers are filling up our local kindergartens.
Thanks for trying to keep society balanced and not getting taken over by the underclass and general underachievers.

Same is true of kids born with severe, debilitating disabilities. I think it’s torture both in old age and young age. Living just to live is really no way to experience life.
As for kids. Don’t have them currently. Not at that stage having decided to switch careers very shortly after undergrad, thus needing more education that required a helluva lot of science my previous degree didn’t need.
I’d also prefer being financial stable before that kind of expensive decision.
Which is fine. I think the earth already has too many MFers anyway.
I may change my mind, meet the right woman that convinces me to have kids. Might not.
My stance is, though, is I’ve waited too long to father one, I’d look hard at adopting. There are, sadly, far too many kids stuck in that system.

Plenty of reasons why having kids is a great experience. That reason is nowhere near that list.
It's weird
I'm a selfish person, I want kids, and I've never once wanted kids because "wHo wiLL LoOk aFteR yOU wHeN Ur olD?
But it comes up in every discussion multiple times, so some people must actually think that way.

I had a 30 minute conversation with my 6 year old last night about people with disabilities. His aunt (my sister) has Downs and he asked why she was different.
His back and forth dialogue, understanding, and acceptance that she and others are born different but deserve respect as much as anyone almost brought me to tears.
I'm sorry that you'll never know the experience of bringing a person into this world and watching that person grow into what hopefully ends up being a pretty cool human.
I'm even more sorry that you are elated about it.

He's in his mid 20s. He doesn't realize how much he'll probably change over the next 10-15 years. I know I didn't.

That makes sense.
I didnt want kids at that age either.
My oldest was born when I was 28. Enjoy your independence but dont rule it out. Its awesome.

Until you have raised a kid, made every sacrifice imaginable in providing them a loving and supportive home , and then had them return the favor by SHITEING on you, you have not lived. Don’t you want the full range of human emotions , lol?

Sounds like a pretty empty existence honestly. But to each their own.

100% agree. Sure I know there's the positive side (or so folks say) but over 2 1/2 decades on my own and never once had the urge to have a money sucking vampire...thank you Al Bundy for inspiring me!

The best part about having kids is that one day you may get a chance to have grandkids. Nothing better.

I feel bad for people who go through life and never have kids.
