Sad life you have. Keep telling yourself that it isn’t though

My stance is, though, is I’ve waited too long to father one, I’d look hard at adopting. There are, sadly, far too many kids stuck in that system.
Adoption is a wonderful thing but has it's own set of challenges and major costs as well.
If you want to foster and adopt that way...state will likely cover most if not all of your adoption costs. But...you have to brace yourself for the possibility of falling in love with a child you are fostering and want to adopt them...and then they are taken away from you and reunited with their parents (ultimate goal of the foster system is to reunite with parents if at all possible). You also have to consider what goes into taking in a child that may have suffered serious abuse or was born addicted to drugs.
If you want to adopt the more traditional way and adopt a baby ...better have some serious $$$ and don't mind waiting a bit. And also prepare yourself for spending $$$ and getting your hopes up and baby is born and bio mom changes her mind once she sees the baby and you walk away childless and out of a lot of money.
If you truly are set on adopting, that's great, but you should prepare yourself for the realities that go with it. It isn't for everyone, and that's ok. Knowing myself and everything I've already been through, I can say it just isn't for me.

Ever looked into adopting an embryo for IVF?
Posted on 8/9/19 at 9:55 am to ScaryClown
Just turned 40 we have 6 and 3 year old. Been debating trying for one more, it would be stressful but the enjoyment of watching them grow up might win out and continue family tree

Get back to us when the next generation avoids you like the plague, unless you're willing to go broke entertaining them.
Or when no one gives a frick about inviting you to anything because you're just a creepy old perv with no kids or grandkids.
Or when you're sitting at the nursing home with no visitors. For a decade.
Or when your birthday, holidays, accomplishments, etc. go unnoticed.
Or when your significant other steps out on you. And there's not a single person on the planet that remotely cares, or wants to spend any time with your depressing arse.

We had been saying all year long this one round of IVF was gonna be it for us. We were done for good after this.
Then I got the phone call last weekend that it didn't work.
You can never truly prepare yourself for how your heart will really respond to a situation.
I'm actually very interested in talking with my doctor about embryo adoption. Might be something to seriously consider.

I never wanted to have kids but am finally at the point where I kinda do. Two things holding me back are 1) I'm probably too old to start having kids and 2) I work far too many hours to ever be able to spend as much quality time as I'd like to with a kid.

I'm a year older than you but that ship has sailed for us. I'm glad that we had kids and wouldn't change it for the world though.
My youngest is almost a teenager now so I'll probably be an empty-nester in my late 40s.

Oh, I'm gonna need to see your list of reasons.
This should be enlightening.

Exactly
I know people that are older now and never had kids. And they have amazing full lives with lots of friends and family.

I chose to not have children as I never felt I would be a good parent.
See that's called being responsible. Enlightened?

Don't avoid the question. You insinuated there was a list of reason as to why you SHOULD have children.

I feel very sorry for your wife.
Imagine your wife saying she only married you for your sperm.

I didn't say a list. I said your reasons, as stated, were selfish and all about you.
Choosing to have a child should first and foremost be about a shared love of life that will be passed onto that child.
Doo I need to continue?

I have some friends like that, I just wasn’t mature enough to have kids in my 20’s... got a masters degree but still just traveled and partied too much, had a great time.... but now just going to be an older dad but it’s still worth it.
