I'd love to know the amount of federal dollars that are wasted by companies that have federal contracts alone. When "the government is paying for it" people have a whole different mindset

not to mention govt bailouts (banks, GM,) or Solyndra , Tesla

Well Special Olympics is a 501c3 nonprofit and doesn't pay taxes. You can donate to them. So why should the federal government support them at all? Same things goes for planned parenthood. Planned parenthood claims to perform mamagrams yet not a single planned parenthood has a mamagram machine. The federal government should not be financing any nonprofits.

The Special Olympics also pulls in over $100 million annually. The fedgov adds ~$15 million.

This isn’t even a full cut. It is a reduction.

Is everyone here arguing that the Special Olympics will not survive or fall apart because they received only $10 million or even $5 million annually, rather than $15 million?

5 fewer trips to Mar A Lago would cover the proposed cut yet y’all never bring that up when complaining about government “waste”

Cut those too.

Cut everything.

Has Scruffy ever said that there are areas that shouldn’t be cut?

There are areas that Scruffy considers essentials, but nothing should be safe.

Why y’all oppose reducing spending for an industry/entity that pulls in over $100 million annually WITHOUT fedgov involvement is absolutely beyond Scruffy.

I’m not really talking about you in particular, just pointing out that many posters here defend these proposed cuts and complain about government waste ad naseum yet are silent about Trump’s lavish spending of government money for his personal use. Spending way above what the Obama’s spent and there was a thread every other day about that. Hypocritical af and makes me not take the complaining seriously.

These rednecks fell on the sword so early that now any proposal, shitty as it is, has to be defended. Can't let Libtard Retards win. Even if it means their broad jumping nephew suffers.

If it’s valid then private entities can fund it. It’s not a necessity and the govt spends way too much. Need to cut everything from this to corporate welfare and especially foreign aid

while i agree with the sentiment of the group think. i want all spending cut. i want less money to Israel, less money to NATO, less money to the UN... entitlements, shithole Central and South American countries, planned parenthood, companies like Tesla and Solyndra, etc. etc.

it's easy to talk about cuts to things you don't care for, but the second a cut is brought up to something politically expedient it gets really easy to call somebody a heartless bastard.

why is the government paying for Special Olympics to begin with? why is the government sending a penny to Israel?

Because, for some odd reason, people think that giving a $100 million+ industry an additional $5-15 million dollars is the only way that industry will survive.

They aren’t very smart.

Most likely, years ago a need for some particular service was identified and instead of the government forming a department and hiring staff to meet that need, they identified organizations already in communities that could meet that need. So they created a grant program to fund those organizations to perform the services needed.

and why is this wrong? We don't need more starving artists with autism. we need productive, capable workers.
Think of all the OweOs we are funding

frick you. If you are joking then whatever..

But if you really feel this way then what makes you think that every person with a physical disability can't work. When I had to get approval from my doctor as to whether or not I could drive he told me "you drive with your mind so yes" In other words, as long as the physical aspect of driving can be customized to fit someone's limitations there is nothing mentally stopping me.

What about the starving artist that do not have autism? There are people with autism who can do things the average person isn't capable of. Autism is pretty broad.

All of the things the federal government waste money on, I think it is ridiculous they would target something like this. This actually gives a lot of participates a purpose and it is pretty inspiring as well.

If they need to cut this to fund something else, then they should just make marijuana, prostitution and sports gambling legal throughout the country. That would draw in more tax dollars.
