For all my AMDG bros, Father Fitzgerald has past away after being diagnosed with ALS about 2 years ago.

He was a brilliant man, and a fixture of the Jesuit community.

RIP

Probably one of the smartest people I have ever met. A good man and a bigger loss to the Jesuit community. RIP.

I just got the notice. I am very saddened by this. He was a great man and the best teacher I ever had. Every one he met was better for knowing him.

I'd only met him in the last couple years since his diagnosis. Still evident that he was special.

I am surprised at his rapid progression since being diagnosed.

I was at the morning assembly yesterday, and someone had mentioned his disease had progressed. No idea it was this severe. I was very sad to read this this morning, but at least he's no longer suffering. He officiated my wedding a few years ago, so this one hurts. RIP Fr. Fitz.

I was surprised by this as well. I didn't know his case had advanced that quickly.

I graduated 20 plus years ago. I never had one of his classes but was on campus helping out with the LEF a few years ago and he came up to me and asked me how I was doing. He knew exactly who I was and I have no idea how. Great guy. Will be deeply missed.

RIP. Truly a saint we were lucky enough to have walking amongst us to observe the example he provided. From small things like hunting you down out of 1200 students just to tell you happy birthday, regardless of whether he ever taught you, to larger things such as advising during a tough time, I could sit and listen to the man for hours and be left yearning to sit for a few more. Wonderful human, no doubt they had a welcoming party at the pearly gates this morning.

He wasn't around then. I think he came on in 96 or right around then.

It's a very sad day.

AMDG

The smartest man I ever met and certainly the best teacher I've ever had.

People like him don't come around often.

Wow, I just found out about this from the OT here. Father Fitzgerald was not there when I was, but I went back in 10 to 15 years ago when dealing with some spiritual stuff and he was a great mentor and counselor. Very wonderful man. Sad news. RIP

Chicken--you were in eighth and ninth grade with me.

We had 3 different presidents in a 5 year period...last year of Harry Thompson was our 8th grade year. The next 3 years were Fr. Postell, and our senior year was the first year of Fr. McGinn's long run.

I was at a meeting at Jesuit this past week and they said he was not doing well.

Fr. Fitzgerald was a Jesuit grad and a good man...his ALS finally got the better of him.

He was one of the smartest people I ever knew, and one of the most influential teachers I ever had at any level. He will be missed.

Well Marco, that means you were in with me too. I got to know Fr. Fitzgerald because he Christened one of my nephews, and was on his way out when my son started there. Good man.
