Family says daughter “publicly humiliated” after being turned away from water park ride

Safety is paramount. Especially after the overweight kid died on the ride recently. The park could have been a little more discreet, but they probably would have complained about being shuttled off across the park to get weighed too.

GRAFTON, IL. (KMOV) - An Illinois family tells News 4 their teenage daughter was publicly embarrassed on Monday at Raging Rivers Waterpark in Grafton. “To have a company be responsible for such a massive mental impact on my daughter, it’s tough,” says her father, Andrew Batton. Batton took his family to the popular amusement park with hopes of getting on the newest ride, the Mississippi Monster. When the group made it to the top of the hill, Batton says a worker then asked his 13-year-old daughter to hop on a scale in front of strangers.

“The guy looked at us and to my daughter and said, ‘You need to step on the scale,” Batton says. The ride has a weight limit of 200 pounds. “She steps on the scale and she’s 205,” Batton says.

“I was like, ‘There’s nothing on the media about that. Was this posted anywhere? He was like, ‘No. We’ve had some people getting hurt so we’re limiting the weight on the ride,” Batton says. Raging Rivers tells News 4 that new water tubes for the Mississippi Monster water slide will arrive as soon as Wednesday. The equipment has been ordered to increase the weight capacity for the ride. “The disappointment that she felt by not being able to ride the brand-new ride was definitely overshadowed by the public humiliation of being asked to step on a scale,” Batton says. “Then further than that, being told that you’re overweight.”

a child being that overweight is fricking child abuse but let's worry about her not being able to ride the ride

Yeah, that was the embarrassing part, not being morbidly obese at 13

Definitely less embarrassing to have an article written about it.

The parents should be humiliated that they let a 13 year old get over 200 pounds.

How about being parents and feeding her some salmon and chicken instead of McDonald's every day.

And then she was “publicly harpooned” by Japanese whalers

It would have been even more embarrassing to get her arse stuck in the tube.
How in the hell is a 13 year old girl the biggest person in your family. Try a vegetable occasionally. Damn.

The only monster is a 13 year old girl who weighs 205 pounds.

If a water slide has a 200 pound limit, I don't know if I want my kid going on it in the first place. Sounds sketchy AF. That said, you let your 13 yr old daughter get over two bills so there's plenty of blame to go around for her embarrassment.

Public humiliation is probably a good thing for the parents and child in this case. They need a wake up call.
Unless she has some medical condition.

Unfortunately that will probably be her new nickname.

The park gets sued if they weigh people, they get sued if overweight people get injured on their ride. Good time to own a business.

The ride has a limit for safety reasons. Pandering to those who don’t belong on it causes accidents like the kid who died on that ride.
Don’t like it? Stop being fat

Dad is preparing for a lawsuit. Park was in a no win situation. Either they let the little fatass ride and risk having the Orlando incident be repeated, or this happens and the park will find themselves in court and ridiculed on social media.
A 13 year old girl weighs 205 pounds. That's the real issue. Her parents should be jailed for child abuse.

A 13 year old girl at 200+ pounds is ridiculous

205 for a woman at any age should embarrass anyone involved in her upbringing.

I agree with pretty much all the posts in this thread but this. I feel like they could have at least mentioned the weight limit before she got up there and had to get in a scale. There are 110 pound 13 year girls who think they’re fat and wouldn’t wanna be weighed in front of people

Parents are idiots.
