I see the OT chastising kids getting an ADD diagnosis for Medicaid benefits, but a lot of the same people get an ADD diagnosis for an Adderall prescription.

Just an observation

We do not give a shite about your observation.

You only need the medication because you have been taking it so long to become dependent on it. The symptoms of ADD are normal childish behavior and consequences of being forced to sit in a desk and be quiet for 8 hours despite being completely overstimulated in all your leisure time. Some kids just take more time to learn how to focus. Instead of giving kids more time to discover how to focus, we drug them with what is essentially meth and speed until they need those drugs to focus.

I grew up with so many kids who were really irreparably messed up by the lifetime of medications they were put on and cycled through.

Well I guess we should just throw away the studies and research and other scientific shite because a guy on the internet said so.

Thank you. Try sitting an adult in a desk for 6 hours a day and talk at them. They would go crazy and stop listening to you. We try to do it to 8 year olds.

In my day it was called rambunctious and the solution was to run outside all day.

I would really like to hear more about this. What kinds of problems were you having?

I wouldn’t deny it’s usefulness in helping kids/adults focus...I’ve taken it before. Adderal is used as a survival tool for today’s lifestyle which I totally get. We are forced into unnatural settings (e.g. sit behind a desk for 8-10 hours a day) our entire lives.

Look at SPECT scans of ADD/ADHD brains vs non-ADD/ADHD brains. Neuroimaging shows they not only function differently than "normal" brains...but that there are different types of ADD that trigger activity in different parts of the brain.

No, it means the disease is a fake.

Then why do I go from a nervous mess who has trouble remembering to tie my shoes to a focused, organized person that can now work hard when I take my Adderall, which I only started taking at age 33, which has changed my life for the better?

Exactly, which is precisely why some absolutely love the ADD/ADHD game. Guarantees a steady flow of income.

how many other children took drugs they didn’t need? How many of them had their brain chemistry permanently altered by those prescriptions? How many became dependent on those drugs and still have to take them into adulthood?
Do you have the answers? You ask this rhetorically like the answers are obvious, but I'm not sure they are?

It is very real, but way rarer than diagnosed. You can't just throw out medical research with anecdotal evidence.
