Those easy diagnoses lead to a lot of return doctor visits (easy guaranteed money for the doctors), a lot of money for pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies. When people get used to the medication they start using more for the same impact. When the prescriptions start running out mid-month people go to illegal drugs. It’s almost as if the drug industry has not learned a thing from the opioid issue. They are setting themselves up to get roasted by the trial lawyers again in another 10 years.

How does the doctor get to go on the adderall cruise every year if he prescribes generic meth instead of adderall?

My prescription has been 20mg twice a day for almost 20 years and I don’t run out early or do any illegal drugs

Desoxyn is extremely difficult to get a prescription for

I have been a member of two psych forums for years and I’ve never seen one person take it

I don’t think you know how it works. They write a script for Adderall (I never seen one take the time to actually write out Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine on a script pad). The pharmacy then fills it for the generic or brand depending on which one the insurance wants to pay for or if the patient has a specific request

But how does that benefit the doctor in any way?

I’m not saying it benefits the doctor. My point is that you would be surprised that a good bit of people are taking brand name Adderall instead of the generic

I was diagnosed as a child but never took any medications. I was so happy at the time. I managed to maintain good grades and graduated college never being medicated.

I had a terrible time as an adult when I first started at a CPA firm. I didn't want it to affect my livelihood so I went and saw a doctor and I was prescribed Adderall. I'm actually kinda pissed I didn't start taking it when I was younger. I'm so much more productive and can actually stay silent for more than a minute or two at a time.

What does a doctor get out of giving adderall scripts? It’s generic so there’s no kickbacks, not that kickbacks are even legal anymore

Don’t they get a guaranteed monthly visit? Multiply that times 50-100 people and it’s a pretty easy side gig. And word gets out very quickly about which doctors are easy to get prescriptions from v. “difficult” doctors that tell you to remove some stress in your life and exercise more before writing prescriptions.

Yes I used to request it but there’s honestly no difference

The point I was making is that doctors aren’t profiting off adderall prescriptions

There are some people that have taken opioids and not gotten addicted or died, too, but it doesn’t mean there is not an epidemic of opioid abuse.

Many non psychiatrists stopped prescribing it when the laws changed because it is so much more work

My doctor gives 3 scripts at a time and probably gets about $50 for my visit. Being that he is always busy seeing old people, I don’t see why he’d take the risk prescribing it to people who don’t need it

However I think everyone should take the computer test to confirm the diagnosis

I was just pointing out that your statement linking people who take adderall to eventually taking illegal drugs isn’t always the case

You seriously think a doctor’s office only makes $50, even for recurring visits? That’s comical. Schedule a visit with a doctor without insurance and see how much you have to pay. It won’t be $50.

They can only write for 90 days of a Schedule 2 controlled substance at time. So the norm is 3 prescriptions for one month each.

I said what my doctor gets from me

Yes he probably gets about $50. He gets my $30 copay and about $20 from bc. The rest is written off

Check your eobs. They’re paid far less than what they bill if they’re in network

Yeah it is. Kids are super easy to get hooked on them drugs, and their parents are so gullible and eat that shite up.

"Oh so you telling me Dr, that my kid has ADD/ADHD since he doesn't like sitting steal for 6-8 hours a day at 5 years old?" "Ok I'll give him all these pills for the rest of his childhood, if that will give me time to relax and not have to deal with him." - moms/dads probably.
