Honestly this. I’m not ashamed to admit I was furloughed by a big company here in Orlando. The fed and state unemployment were just half of my take home pay. No clue when I’ll be called back and now there is a massive hiring freeze as Disney cut 900M in projects and others followed suit. And now I’m stuck at home with a toddler. Would much rather be at work, but shite could be worse.

I'm a little torn on the issue. On the one hand, that's a shite ton of money for unemployment and a lot of people are coming out way ahead, but on the other hand it's the government's fault a lot these people can't work.

I'm definitely pretty bitter about how they have handled this. They had those of us that were working through the pandemic sign a written agreement. After one month, they changed the agreement to add around 50 hrs of extra work(per month) for the same amount of money.
All but two of my coworkers have been called back in the last couple of weeks and they're not shy about letting you know that they made just as much, if not more, than they would have made by working.
I don't blame my employer for laying off the dead weight. But I still resent that bad behavior was basically rewarded, in this case.

Don't forget that each state has a certain amount of weeks that you can collect. It's not forever. In Louisiana you can collect 26 weeks out of 52. Some states are only 12 weeks. Unless they extend the state unemployment it really won't matter what the feds do. I guess you would just get federal money and no state money.

I didn’t know what the state limits were. So now that the federal is out, some could be close to the 26 week mark, leaving them with zero income.

I agree, but that ship has sailed. Again, even if everything were to reopen unrestricted tomorrow, it would be naive to think the everything will just go back to normal.

The unfortunate thing about unemployment is that it can't be controlled on a case by case basis.
I don't think anyone has an issue with people who legitimately lost good jobs receiving the money they need to pay their bills. I also don't think anyone has an issue with it going to people who would readily return to their job once it is back open.
The issue people have is with the people who have refused to go back to their jobs because they are being paid to do nothing. And these people are advocating for shutdowns and things that harm other people's jobs, so it affects all of us.
I watched some of the service industry people buying expensive stuff, going on trips, partying hard, etc. while simultaneously posting on social media that it was too early to open back up. Some of them still posting now that we should lock back down.
So, you're fine with running around town with your friends and partying at night with groups of people.. but you don't believe it is safe to go to work?
Ultimately, yes it has no bearing on my life that people received unemployment. It isn't something I'm upset about because it doesn't affect me. BUT.. I 100% see why people who didn't get the paid vacation are salty towards those who did.

Yes they are. Discussing. But that’s really doesn’t mean shite until something is passed. If it somehow does pass, many experts have already said at best it will take weeks to implement. It isn’t something where they just press a button and it rolls on. But that’s again if they pass it this week. I believe both the senate and congress have to pass it since it’s a different bill than what they purposed?
I’m not worried. I’ve handled my money well. Even before being furloughed (making much more than the fed and FL employment combined), my family has lived within our means so we are safe. But some aren’t as fortunate as me. If you really look into what this federal unemployment was suppose to do, it was suppose to stimulate the economy. So while of course they should have saved, the point was for them to spend at businesses. At least that’s how I see it imo.

Not sure if it's applicable to your situation, but I know when I made up my cut list it was before any sort of federal unemployment was on the table. My list was based on pure survival. I luckily never had to furlough anyone, but I was ready to.

Well they have been getting 6,776/month. That's a shite load for doing nothing. If any of these fricks haven't been saving,they are a lost cause.
