if I'm trump I just airdrop $10k into everyone bank account and say take two weeks off so we can get ahead of covid.

that what new Zealand kinda did, know what I mean?

trump would get reelected also. ppl would love that $10k airdrop.

The government's damn sure been rewarding folks that won't get off their arse to find work. Why not reward the one's that have been working every damn day this year?

We didn't have to pay our taxes for another couple months even though I did it on time because who the frick knew what that shite show was going to look like.
Same here. My accountant did my taxes by the end of February and I wrote my damn check to the IRS & State. AND I've worked everyday through this shite - if the Gov wants to give the hard working tax payers a break, I'm all for it. I won't hold my breath.

A large portion of people have jobs that are essential to other people's survival. So this would be impossible.

Honestly, people should just fricking get over it. Everyone is clinging to the news that someone will have a vaccine by September? You fricking kidding me. I get we are in a “pandemic” and everyone wants a solution now, but vaccines to novel viruses takes on average 20 years to develop. 7 years is the aggressive timeline. But we’re in an election year, so people are going to start shooting themselves up with vaccines that haven’t gone through long term human trials. I feel bad for healthcare workers who will be forced to take it. And I’m in no way an anti-vaccine person. My daughter got all her shots the absolute second she could. I just think everyone needs to take a fricking breather and chill.

ETA: I would love to see trump take every talking point away from Democrats. Student loan forgiveness, stimulus, whatever. Give them fricking nothing to talk about.

In Louisiana? The max a single person with no kids can make is $847 per week before taxes

I've seen signs for places hiring. The problem is these jobs are menial and "beneath the dignity" (to borrow a quote from The Legend of Bagger Vance) of those who have lost jobs, and they'd rather collect unemployment. And by the way, I'm not judging those people. But the narrative of "there are no jobs" isn't true, there just may not be jobs you want.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see another stimulus get passed and as part of that it is extended. ( especially with the election coming up) But as of right now, the March stimulus allocated $600 a week per person and that bends July 31st. It’s not a “lie”

Just basing off of average numbers, a married couple both unemployed has been receiving $7,824 a month in benefits. The same couple will now receive $3024 a month.

Unless you live in areas heavily dependent on tourism. Here in central Florida, construction is on massive hiring freezes with the exception of a few very specialized trades (and those are getting grabbed up). My headhunter was the one to give me the inside scoop that the Balfour Beatty office down here which is massive did a big layoff two weeks ago. Two of the three biggest hospital chains are also on freezes too.

But we did this in March/April. And when we opened back up, the numbers rose again. That is exactly what would happen again. It will continue happening. There is no purpose to locking down for something that will return every time we reopen.

It's getting downvoted because it's bullshite.

I was furloughed in March. Laid off in April. I have applied for 100's of jobs since then. Talked to plenty of employers. Every time it's "yeah, we'll come back around when it looks like the economy is picking up again".

So I should let go of my unemployment to go push buggies at Wal-Mart for minimum wage, while exposing myself to Covid with no health insurance?

frick off.

I guess you missed the post where I said that I'm mostly referring to coworkers, not every single person on unemployment. But keep nitpicking.

Yeah, it was a real stretch to think that your opinion on this matter extended beyond a handful of coworkers.

Sign me up for some of this poverty.

I get it. But be careful what you wish for. Or don’t.. I’m sure a sudden drop in nationwide consumption would have no affect on your job.
