Yep, exactly. We are very broken up, but there's a living area as part of the kitchen. So nobody is stuck in the kitchen alone or anything.
What I assume was supposed to be the formal dining room, I turned into a walk-in pantry and kitchen gadget/pots storage (I lined the walls with floor to ceiling shelves). Beer mini-fridge is in there, large pots/pans, canned good and nonperishables, etc. It has doors that can remain shut so nobody can see that stuff.
I can't wait to one day have a much larger and more workable kitchen though.

I don't mine the open floor plan, being able to cook with the big screen in the line of sight is a plus.
But for some reason we (with the influence of my wife) own a house with a gargantuan master bedroom These things keep trending bigger and bigger too. We have a king sized bed and bedroom set and the damn room still looks empty. Really caught her eye when we looked at the house. "Look how spacious this room we'll spend 24 minutes a day with the lights are on is, it is indeed a good idea to spend extra money heating and cooling it"

That sounds amazing! 
From what's currently been on the market in the last year, we can either get an older home with decently mixed layout and 8-9' ceilings, or a newer one with 9'+ ceilings and everything is wide-arse open with all gray overly modern-looking everything.

Oh man. I can't wait to see how this ages.
I don't necessarily hate the all white/grey open super-clean look you see pretty much in all new homes, but I always wonder how it will age as trends change.

I can appreciate the clean look of it, but it is seldom well-executed IMO. This is my nightmare:

"open concept" is dumb. Always hated it. All those houses will look dated eventually.

I think I've maybe seen than....I've seen some that you really can't tell if it's a living room dining room combo, or a living room somewhat separated from an eat in kitchen... in either case seems like a good set up... was closed, but still flowed

My house has an open concept feel and I love it. It’s so open that I can take a shite and make pancakes at the same time.

Same. We finally took the TV out of the bedroom because it was so far from the bed there was no point in watching it in there. I guess we could have bought a bigger TV, but the 40" one looked trashy enough already. Now we just watch something on the iPad or Chromebook if we want to watch something in the bed.
As for open concept floor plans, I don't mind them if they're done well. I've only been in a few houses I thought were done well though.
