re: Everyone wants to blame the media, but it seems the CDC and W.H.O are fueling this fire.

I mean we can die in a car accident. Am I not supposed to drive to work?
I work in a hospital. If I’m going to get it, I will. I’m sure as hell not spending off time cooped up all day.

Well when you strawman like that, how can anyone expect a civil discussion?

>Economic policy over the last 40 years decimates middle class
>Economic policy over the last 20 years eliminates the efficacy some of our "lifeline" tricks to keep the economy afloat in such times (deficit spending, for example)
>Feds always find ways to pull money out of thin air when they need it for businesses and rich people
>Pandemic hits us and instead of bailing out average people with something like cash-in-hand to prop up market demand, Feds bail out the banks again with $1.5T and it does little for the stock market
>Surprise, average people just don't matter to our government anymore

Corona Virus currently has a death rate around 1%. We obviously will not have those final numbers as many cases are still active. Could you imagine if they had 61,000,000 cases with a 1% death rate. That is 610,000 people. Thats why they are shutting things down to stop the spread because this thing is 10x deadlier than the flu.
That’s not how statistics for this type of thing typically work. As they get better at identifying it the death rates will go down most likely.

If a government could design a virus that killed off of IQ and frequency of posting on the poli-board, I'd be 100% in support of that. Do us a favor China.

If you keep using facts to back up your argument you’re going to get banned or attacked. We can’t have facts we must use emotions only.
He is using facts, but they prove the opposite of the case he was trying to make.
A) Using his numbers, swine flu had a case fatality rate of 0.04%. Comparable with the flu. COVD-19 has ranged from 0.5-4% depending on if the area is being overwhelmed due to the number of cases (Wuhan/Italy). On the low end, that is ten times worse than H1N1.
B) Looking at the total number of H1N1 cases globally after it spent months doubling over and over again is a terrible way to compare. Do you understand basic exponential growth and doubling time?
H1N1 started in April, and by mid-May it was at 3,000 cases. That was about a month and a half. Right now we are at around the month a half point at which cases starting popping up in the US (early February). We are at 1,500 cases. In another couple days we will surpass the 3,000 case mark once testing becomes more available. At that point with H1N1 they had experienced 3 deaths. We are currently at 41.
Again the data is pointing to this being ten times worse than H1N1. If it becomes as widespread as H1N1, you are talking about a lot more deaths than H1N1... IT'S WHY THIS IS NOT TO BE TREATED LIKE H1N1.

This should have its own thread and be required reading material before posting. Thank you

Uhh... death causes are easily identified, solid number. But there are tons of people who have it but are not reported into data.

This is a weird argument that keeps popping up.. against additional measures because the virus and incubated individuals are actually far more widespread than we know

Right now they aren't testing everyone. Only individuals who have been exposed to this within a certain timeframe or the most severe cases requiring hospitalization. So you aren't getting a true representation of the total number infected, only the most severe and most likely to have it.
Basically you are getting your statistics without the correct numbers. The denominator isn't correct, so the death rate is inflated. If 10 die but only 100 people 'have it', the death rate is rather high. Yet if you test all of society and find that 1,000,000 have it, that 10 is just a drop in the bucket.

There are tons of people that have it or already had it and recovered that are not a “confirmed” case. Had they been identified, the mortality rate is much lower
Posted on 3/15/20 at 10:15 pm to jyoung1
I understand what you're saying, but in places like China where testing has been available for some time now there is a 3.9% death rate.
Posted on 3/15/20 at 10:17 pm to hehateme2285
I don't go by what ifs. I go by statistics. There could have been patients with Swine Flu who recovered and never got tested. Still doesn't change the mortality rate from what is reported. Point is this is way deadlier than the flu. This is why social distancing is being implemented.

Government dropped the ball here.
Agreed. The CDC needs to be royally retooled once the dust settles on this. They will have cost many American lives when it is all said and done.

No it doesn’t. The CDC has said that most people will show slight symptoms and most won’t even have symptoms.
Think about this for a second for yourself.. do you think these people would be tested to add the the “confirmed cases”?

Now that's over a year vs 4 months. But...
It hasn’t quite been 4 months and go look up how many cases of H1N1 were confirmed at this point. I think it was less than at the same ‘age’ as covid-19. So we know covid-19 is more deadly and we think it spreads as fast or faster. Do you really need this spelled out?
