Are you doing this at the hospital or an imaging center? Did you only look and check prices at one place?

Imaging center, but it is being billed as an outpatient hospital service, so deductible/coinsurance, not a copay.

It was an urgent situation that led to me being admitted that same day, so I wasn't in a position to go shopping around.

The hidden cost of health care premiums and medical bills has as much as effect as inflation.

I’m all up for centralized health care if it meant I pay more taxes. I used to pay 500$ a month and now I pay 1200$ a month

I had a pain in my right side last year, Dr "thought" it "might" be my appendix so he sent me for a CT Scan. It was negative and they diagnosed diverticulitis.

I have BC/BS Texas Large Group Insurance and my part of the bill was $5,000.00, I had not met my Deductible

What’s the actual cost of a ct scan?

Once you own the machine, it’s 3 cents of electricity and 15 mins of nurse time. 15 mins for a radiologist to interpret.

It’s early in the year. You haven’t met your deductible yet. A lot of people get things done in December for this reason.

I am having 2 at the hospital right now. $989 for both.

I had one two weeks ago... $58.25 out of pocket, total billed insurance was slightly north of $850.00. This was at a stand-alone diagnostic imaging facility, and was a chest CT scan only, though.

When HDHPs first came out I loved mine. I paid the first $5k out of pocket via pre-tax HSA money and paid zero the rest of the year for anything.

Some years we didn’t hit the 5k but the years we did, everything got fixed.

I guess it all depends on the insurance and whatever their contract is with the hospital. Mine is BCBS also. Had no choice in picking it.

Oh well.

Seem like plans have been increasing the max out of pocket lately. Of course they won’t mention that to employees. They do tel you if premiums remain the same or slightly increase but won’t be too loud about deductibles or out of pockets increasing.

I've had the same plan for 5 years now. Blue Cross Blue Shield Silver preferred. My primary care doctor visits went from $25 copay to $50 this year. frick, they used to be included with no copay 4 years ago.

Was health insurance ever better in the past?

All depends on the plan you have. Different plans have different benefits. Different benefits cover different things and offer different premiums.

If you're plan has a deductible that wasn't met it is not uncommon to pay the first few thousand out of pocket before their coverage starts to kick in.

Call someone and ask about it politely.

I've done that in the past and had what I owed out of pocket reduced because of some "error" the billing dept made.

Check in with Europe on that...

6month wait for head CT to rule out glioblastoma.

They are declining covering for elderly patients and recommending hospice instead.

OP, can you post a link to your summary of benefits or evidence of coverage? It should all be in there.

I had an EGD (throat scope) a few months ago and the other day I was at the doc for my annual physical. During paying my copay, they politely reminded me I had a balance of $280. I was like "Huh? For what?!" and they told me it was for this procedure.

Kinda some bullshite but I get it. Still.
