Gibraltar - at basically the southern tip of Spain, sit at roughly the same latitude as Nashville, TN and Las Vegas.
London - Calgary, Canada would be 35 miles south of London.
Rome would be 32 miles north of New York City.
My point is, we wouldn't be shaming Canadians for having to buy AC when they've never had to before.
Do you understand how the climate works? The Gulf Stream keeps Europe very moderate. To compare Canada to western Europe climate because they’re at the same latitude is ignorant.

Someone already tried that point, and like you, didn't Google before trying to make it.
68% of Canada has A/C vs 20% of Europe.
Also, as someone pointed out, Europe actually stays warmer than Canada due to the Gulf Stream.
quote:
Europe stays warmer than Canada, even in places that are farther north, because warm Atlantic Ocean currents (the Gulf Stream system) and prevailing westerly winds bring mild ocean air into Europe. Europe is also more exposed to the ocean and lacks a massive north–south mountain barrier, so that mild air can travel far inland. In contrast, Canada is more continental, is frequently exposed to cold Arctic air, and the Rocky Mountains help block Pacific maritime air from reaching much of the interior. Together, these factors make European winters much milder than those in Canada at similar latitudes.
Being further North is only one factor. All you had to do was Google

You are kidding, right? France has a love affair with nuclear power.

It's not Europe as a whole. It's country by country. Germany, for instance, hates it.

Yep, I don t get that either, they really could benefit from it. I guess it's a waste issue. France has places where it can dispose of the stuff like in Africa that the Germans don't.

Not widely adopted A/C.
Maybe they are waiting on more money from the US tax payers?

Decent chance I might overheat and die if the weatherman reported the temperature with a fricking C behind it.

Good news is a lot of their population is coming from the Middle East. Their new citizens will adapt to the heat easily.

Let me introduce you Europeans to a little invention from the American South called the window unit.

We went over it already:

That translates into 84F-91F.daytime highs. Not what I would call a heat emergency. I get that they aren't accustomed to it but jeez... keep a portable one room unit in the garage if that's considered a heat wave

It was warm today where I live and it was about 33°C (91.4° F) and right now I have the door open and it is currently 17°C (62.6°F). Where I live depending on the year it gets above 90 a few times a year and cools down at night I would say 20 to 40 times a year. An AC where I live doesn't make sense nor would it in London. Now in Spain, Italy, and Southern France, Portugal and other countries that get warm more than 4-5 months out of the year should have AC units. Countries with typically cooler climates you don't get enough heat to justify putting in an AC. Those in the warmer climates it is kinda stupid to me those that don't.

I got an “extreme heat warning” today in Lisbon for it being 90 degrees. It made me chuckle. Sure it was hot, but nothing like early August in south Louisiana. These Europeans are soft.

I was addressing to UK specifically, not all of Europe.
