We were in London one July and went to Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Brits were melting in about an 83 degree heatwave.

Just not their culture. Also there are a lot of 3rd world level areas of Europe.
Not sure where these deaths break down per country though.

A quick google search

Between 40,000 and 46,000 people die each year in the United States from cold-related causes
quote:
A large European study found about 204,000 cold-attributable deaths per year across Europe, compared with about 20,000 heat-attributable deaths

That didn't go as planned for him

No matter how you look at it, it's a stupid problem for Europe to have
I go there often. It is true that many older housing units do not have AC. Bosnia gets fairly hot and humid during the summer. My in-laws have never had AC. We are trying to get them to move into a new building. They are such a proud and practical people, they refuse. They say they never needed it before and do not need it now.

Isn't that 20k low compared to the info in the OP article?

Heat-related mortality in Europe during 2024 and health emergency forecasting to reduce preventable deaths
quote:
Country Estimated heat-related deaths
Italy >19,000
Spain >6,700
Germany ~6,300
Greece ~6,000
Romania >4,900
Other 27 countries combined ~19,900

Newer construction?
Our Croatian properties are new and have very good AC and heating. They build very good houses there. Just don't expect it to be done quickly.

Yea
The number the WHO put out seems high looking at other studies that all come in at about 60K deaths per year. The WHO probably needs to pump the numbers up for funding purposes.

Not sure I believe that. Wild if true.

Yeah but look at all the Earth and feels they're saving by not having AC.
It's worth the sacrifice. Those old people don't deserve to keep living anyway.

2nd page & we still don’t know how hot it is over there

The bottom floor is underground and from the 1300s
The top floor (fourth floor) is from the 1800s I believe. We retrofitted it, though.
Where in Croatia?

May be a definition or exclusion thing.
Those who died with heat related complications vs those who died because.
May also be a boundary thing.
19,000 is high for Italy in any manner. They aren't big on AC though.

Meanwhile, their sacrifice is offset by Indians who shite in the rivers and dump trash in the ocean and China who accounts for about 33% of all CO2 emissions.

get that they don't need it too often, but why not buy a window unit for the occasional heat wave?
Their buildings are small so tha might be an option. I know a full AC unit would be a challenge. Many bars cannot get a glycol unit either for that same reason

That is nothing in Fahrenheit Freedom Units.
That is why I don't trust the metric system for some measures.
