Kiran and Graves are the sort of pople BR desperately needs but sure as hell doesn't deserve.

I haven’t really kept up with local BR politics the last few years so I don’t really have an opinion, but I’ve heard good things about Graves from people that would know. He definitely seems to be the good guy in that corrupt political structure.

Is it common for elected officials to sign NDAs about public business?

I do not think so. In fact, this may violate various laws about public disclosure of government business.

Why would the public not be privy to dealings involving environmental compliance? Especially when it involves our tax dollars paying for response to potential compliance orders.

I think a third follow up (that has been asked in various ways in this thread) also applies: Especially when BR is trying to argue this has a short timeframe and they MUST act NOW.

UPDATE: Now, the U.S. Dept. of Justice (DOJ) is also saying they were not aware of any non-disclosure agreement.

“Just talked to DOJ. DOJ confirmed also that there was not an nda requirement on their part.” -Congressman Graves.

Mayor Broome’s office has issued a statement in response now: “There is no NDA regarding the stormwater proposal. There is an NDA with the Parish Attorney concerning our conversations with the Justice Department regarding our MS4 audit. Also, while there is no deadline regarding our stormwater proposal, there is a deadline from the Justice Department to submit our plan for MS4 permit compliance.”

Yes, you want confidentiality when preparing a permit application. Once the application is final, it goes out for public comment. The public doesn't have to be involved as deeply as all the discussion had between the government and the contractor in preparing the application - as long as the application itself is made public, which it is.

I work with regulating entities. Almost everything is publicly available information.

There's a lot of stuff that's not. Some stuff in permits that may expose proprietary processes should be kept confidential. Also the locations of surface water intakes for public supply is confidential. I'm sure there's plenty of confidential information in nuclear power regulation as well.

I mean this Mayor appointed Gary Chambers and Silky Slim to the EBR law enforcement advisory council and hired a male CAO (for about 4 days) who wore an earring and lied about his employment history, which was discovered after a google search by the advocate, in just her second or third month in office.

Who's really surprised at anything she does honestly?

So, the only NDA was between the Broome administration and the parish attorney?????
I’m assuming the they mean Dotson, a B.R. government employee.

Is that even legal, and why would a government attorney advising city leaders on a variety of matters suddenly require a NDA on this issue?

I am more and more curious where HNTB lies in terms of NDA involvement. Program management can be a cash for for consultants (see CH2MHill’s program management of the SSO consent decree program). Maybe Kiran can dig deeper there.

The mere fact that these fricking retards were going to jam through a goddamned property tax on EBR property owners and not tell them a fricking thing about the specifics of why it was required, what it was supposed to do or how long it would be in place alone is enough of a reason to fricking kick every one of their worthless asses to the curb.

One thing is for sure, Broome stepped in a big pile shite she just let loose on the carpet and they are in panic mode. Further digging will and should lead to removal.

Wow, this is corrupt as shite if true.

If this is as reported, Mayor Broome should be removed from office immediately and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
That last part is probably not a possibility since, on the local level, DA Moore doesn’t have the guts to do it and on the federal level…well, Dems take care of themselves.

I suspect the Jeff Landry Bat Signal is shining in the sky right now his office is goi g to take a look at this. New tax cloaked as a fee with bald faced public lies about NDA’s.

I also wouldn’t be asking a single council member for a damn thing anytime soon if I was Broome.

They claimed that the EPA was the reason for an NDA.

Now they are claiming it was a city-parish one and are using that as an excuse not to discuss anything.

Ahem. frick THESE frickING ASSHOLES RIGHT UP MAIN STREET!!!

They were trying to pull a fast one and get a blank check for what they wanted. Now even Chauna fricking Banks is telling them to frick off.
