Metal detectors aren’t gonna stop them. If I’m paying higher taxes for school security (which I would happily do, btw) I want it to go towards actual real manner security at every entrance at every school.
I sent my kids to private and public schools. All of the public schools had full time police patrol in GA and Louisiana.

st but I wouldn't mind my tax dollars going to that
I know of about 40billion that could’ve been a good start.
Give me a fricking break. It's not like that was the last $40 billion the country has to spend, adn these awful scenarios are the only time people like you pretend to care about mental health let alone claim you want additional spending on it.

I just have to say that when something like this happens and people immediately jump to conspiracy theories and politics, my blood boils

I don't know the particulars of today's events but if he entered the school at least the door would have stayed locked when setting off the metal detector. Sure it's not 100% effective but it's at least one more barrier.
They are practically worthless. It would be a "do anything just to say you did something" gesture, much like the entirety of the covid response.

You think a buzzer goes off when someone shoots another person or something?
They have schools getting locked down every other week here because someone is running from the cops a mile away from the school
The police should’ve told the school to lock down as soon as the suspect was within the area

Locking a shooter inside a building full of kids doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
How did he get the guns inside? Just walk in with them?

They need anonymous teachers or other school employees to conceal and carry. This is horrible and inexcusable.

I cannot even begin to imagine the rage, confusion, and grief that would come with losing a child like this. I don't know how any parents in these situations carry on.
Vigilantly law is about to start happening!!!

If he is an illegal immigrant who was brought here as a child across the border, it is about time we have a hard conversation about immigration into this country.

He has an AR-15.
Simply shoot the lock.
Door now (sadly) unlocked.

They did, as soon as they knew. Pure speculation, but I'm guessing he arrived at the school 15 minutes or less after he shot the first person.
The police department doesn't get a push notification when someone shoots another person.

I think the bigger issue is that he was crazy.

It's crazy that if this idiot crashes his truck half a mile earlier, this likely is nothing more than a local news story about a kid who shot his grandmother and was subsequently killed in a roadside shootout with CBP.

Uvalde is 1.5 hours from the border and it’s a known illegal drop off point. Wtf are you talking about?
I was on a deer lease there in the mid 90's, we saw multiple Border Patrol vehicles every time we rode into town, full size 2 door blazers.
